Hi khong,

Thanks for your quick reply.

So we fixed it in SO 8 or OO 2.0 ...

Unfortunately, it is not fix for OO.o 2.0 considering OO.o does not have the
dictionary.

I suggested to disable the check box and mark it as checked when word2word
dictionary is not available.

I also agreed on your suggestion. However, ft does not want to change it 'as it
may change the initial requirements made from its stakeholder'. Here, I'd like
to claim that those requirements are incorrectly made, considering OO.o. And, I
hope the stakeholder to change the requirements so that it includes your
suggestion. It seems to be only solution.

khong, I belive you are working for Sun. Then, may I ask who is the stakeholder
here exactly? Is that the tester or StarSuite Korean QA team? Is there any way
to contact them? Also, how can I help in improving the requirements and feeding
it to dev team?

I am working on OO.o as Korean community lead and I belive this issue should be
fixed for OO.o Korean users. Thanks for your effort again.

Hi ft khong,

I've been further researched this issue. Now I fully understand the purpose of
'Hangul/Hanja Conversion'. It is dedicated function to convert word by word as
scanning current selection or entire document. It is not originally meant for
single character conversion.

The problem is that this function is bound to IME Hanja key. The key is used for
single character conversion by IME ( see
http://www.openoffice.org/nonav/issues/showattachment.cgi/28160/hanja_ime.png ).
In OO.o, this works expected only when user just finish to input single
character. Once caret leaves the character, there is no chance to do it again. I
posted another issue for this, iz 52363 (
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=52363 ).

If khong agree, then I am fine with closing this issue.

Thanks,
Jeongkyu

Hi ft,

Let me clarify that this issue is not about OO.o vs StarSuite. I am talking
about breaking changes between OO.o 1.1.x and OO.o 1.9.x.

From your comment, I found the feature was implemented in StarSuite 7. And, as
I
mentioned above, the dialog works fine in 1.1.4. Also, I just confirmed it works
fine in 1.1.5 rc. It means that we are happy in both application, OO.o 1.1.x and
StarSuite 7.

However, it does not work anymore in OO.o 1.9.x. And I am not asking to break
StarSuite, but asking to make OO.o work like before.

jeongkyu - khong,

Please forgive me to add you to cc list. And would you clarify that when the
feature was introduced exactly? You said it is new feature, but ft said it is
feature of StarSuite 7. Unfortunately, I don't have access to StarSuite 7 or 8.

Also, I wonder if there is a way to fix the spec of the feature. I believe that
the spec should've considered the situation of OO.o.

BTW, sorry for bugging you. Please understand this is important issue for Korean
OpenOffice.org users. :-)

khong-jeongkyu, H/H conversion was introduced in SO 7 or OO 1.1. It tried to
convert every convertable elements, word or character, when 'Replace by
character' is unchecked. As I mentioned, SO contains word2word dictionary,
Korean tester complained that when the check box is unchecked, it should not do
char2char conversion. So we fixed it in SO 8 or OO 2.0, maked it only convert
words when the check box is unchecked. I should not say this fix is a new
feature, but a bug fix.

I suggested to disable the check box and mark it as checked when word2word
dictionary is not available.

FT: I am sorry, of course you have the right to ask why I closed this issue.
The feature was implemented by a direct request from Korea for StarSuite 7. Thus
it was implemented based on the feature set of StarSuite 7 (not OpenOffice.org).
Therefore I will not change this behaviour as it may change the initial
requirements made from its stakeholder.
As you know StarSuite/StarOffice and openOffice.org have the same codebase so I
cannot agree on a change in OpenOffice.org since it will affect StarSuite, too.
I hope I was able to clarify why I closed this issue.

P.S.: If you have any further requests feel free to contact me via e-mail.

Hi ft,

FT-KH: No, we won't change this behaviour.

Please forgive me to reopen this issue. As an initial poster, may I ask why you
decide not to change the behaviour? As kh already mentioned, this issue might be
a defect to OpenOffice.org users.

I understand there is no problem in StartOffice and you guys are very busy.
However, the reason should be mentioned when you say 'won't fix', I belive.

jeongkyu - khong,
Thanks for the information. :-)

jeongkyu - FT,
I wonder if there is a way to turn off the dialog. Actaully, at least on
Windows, it is better to use Korean IME for the character by character
conversion. However, OOo seems to intercept keyboard input (right control)
always. It would be better if OOo allow user to use IME conversion.

This is new feature our Korean engineers requested. They don't want conversion
process to stop on each single characters when they work on a long document.

In StarOffice, we do have a word to word dictionary, but OO.o does not. When
'Replace by character' is unchecked, it will only do word to word conversion,
and ignore single character. They told me the fact is most single character has
no meaning in a real document. Imagine working on a long document, the process
stop on each single meaningless character, and you have to click on 'Ignore' to
skip each one of them.

Since OOo does not have word to word dictionary, users should always use
'Rep[lace by character'. The option should be default checked.

FT: could we set the option according to the availablity of word to word
dictionary? Or at least to save the option. Now every time when opening
conversion dialog box, the option is unchecked.

One of the Korean community member gave me a workaround - checking 'Replace by
character' option in the dialog ( http://oooko.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=177 ).
I belive that conversion of one Korean character should work without regarding
to the option.
