I get the same error with:
- Windows 98 SE (in a VMWare virtual machine upon my Mandriva Linux)
- OOo m222 (aka 2.3.0 L10N's version) with DicOOo 1.7 embedded

Launched with administrator rights (thanks to W98!), DicOOo 1.7 asks for un
update to 1.8 then error: (Here's the french message)
"Erreur irrécupérable
Abandon de la mise à jour"

If you need so, I've made a snapshot of the screen. Feel free to ask me for it.

strange as nothing has been changed on this part
works here under linux

"if DicOOo tries to
install a new version to the same location as itself has been loaded from"
--> the message is explicit telling that you can't

aurentgodard:
could you please have a look at it? This seems to happen, if DicOOo tries to
install a new version to the same location as itself has been loaded from.
Unforunately this is the default for many Windows boxes (as user oftenhas admin
privileges). This is very confusing for new users, as this would often be the
first thing what they do with a new OOo-Version.

Using 2.0.3 final DicOOo 1.5.5 is included. When using the guide it suggests
upgrading to 1.6. Choosing yes results in unknown failure.

Using:
XP, DicOOo in Danish, Danish OOo 2.0.3 from Pavel:
ftp://ftp.linux.cz/pub/localization/OpenOffice.org/devel/680/2.0.3-RC7/OOo_2.0.3_060628_Win32Intel_install_da.exe
