Manually adding the file to D:\Documents and Settings\[name with æ,ø, or å]\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\wordbook, the user dictionary works without any problems. Is the path to the user dictionaries stored in any file in OOo? PS. This was not a problem in versions prior to OOo 3. I have just created two new Windows user accounts: JørgenKjær and KjærJørÄßÜ. I installed OOo-dev 3.3.0 DEV300m77 (Build:9496). The problem is still there. I don't know what you did, but unfortunately it didn't help. Windows XP sp3 Jørgen Rasmussen - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. SB said there is code in the office the uses 8 bit MS API functions and those do only handle characters from the MS-1251 codepage properly. And Greek characters are not part of that. That is unless you have a Greek, Chinese, Thai, Arabic, ... OS you can't make use of those characters in any path to be used by OOO. As for the Danish characters: I cannot reproduce this problem anymore with a current DEV300 build. I used "KjærJørÄßÜ" as part of the office name and had a dictionary with similar name as well and could properly make use of that dictionary. Tl->SBA: Please verify that this problem does not exist anymore. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Note that soffice.exe must be started by hand then as the system integration (Windows main menu start links) can not work anymore. The Office fails to start entirely when installed into a path like this "C:\TEST\ØøåèéêëâğŽΓΔΣΦäöüÄÖÜß\.." - OK, this character collection was meant to do evil :-) However, in the installation scenario "C:\TEST\Øø\..\", Office comes up. Tools - Options - Language Settings - Writing aids allows to create user dict. But it can not be edited. Restarting Office and that empty dict is gone (was never written to disk) Manually copying a dict into the "correct" folder (/..Basis/../user/wordbook/) lets the dict be seen, and edited. - This is ONE possible workaround. Another workaround is to put the user directory into a path on the machine that is NOT under the user-named directory tree. This only makes sense for single-user installations, otherwise all users would overwrite each others settings all the time. SBA-> TL: Please proceed. Put myself, CD and MAV on c/c. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Component|lingucomponent Version|OOO300m9 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows XP Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|spell checking Assigned to|[EMAIL PROTECTED] Reported by|joergenr --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Nov 23 20:04:00 + 2008 --- With file paths like: D:\Documents and Settings\Jørgen\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\wordbook D:\Documents and Settings\Kjærgaard\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\wordbook or D:\Documents and Settings\Åberg\Application Data\OpenOffice.org\3\user\wordbook, it is not possible to add words to user dictionaries, or to create user dictonaries. I also think that other Danish characters like å, Ø and Æ will cause OOo to fail creating user dictionaries. ø U+00F8 LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH STROKE æ U+00E6 LATIN SMALL LETTER AE Å U+00C5 LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A WITH RING ABOVE I have tested this with the Danish and the English version of OOo 3.0.0 Build 9358 for Windows. I have tested with different user names. With one of the tree letters mentioned above in the file path, Ooo cannot create user dictionaries and it is therefore not possible to add words to user dictionaries. To reproduce the bug: Create a new user of your computer. Give the account a name containing one of the above mentioned characters. Install OpenOffice.org version 3.0.0 Open a text document, write and misspell a word. Try to add the word to a user dictionary. Try to create a user dictionary.
