skipping verified as the issue is not tied to the cws that was integrated in the
end anyway (code was moved to native262)

the length of time it takes to do a search is dependent on the number of
external volumes that are
available. I find that I get the first 2 most important local results very
quickly. Those on the external drive
take longer. Searching only the startup drive would be a good thing. Though I
don't know how to easily
implement. The other option would be to dynamically add items to the menu.

There is a problem with searching for apps that can open .oxt since the current
OpenOffice.org.app on
Mac OS X still doesn't support platform integration for installing extensions.

Really nice ! The search for OOo instances takes quite a while on my system, so
we either find a better way
of searching (e.g. asking for a list of apps capable of opening ".oxt" if that
is possible) or should show
some progress indicator. But that is a minor issue.

And writing an uninstall script during install would be nice as well.

I attached a small demo of the way I thought of...

The tarball doesn't contain the real localedata files, only an empty file
"foobar" (and of course I forgot to use --owner root --group admin --same-owner
when creating it - just thought of it again while reading the previous comment)

Ignore the many, many dialog boxes, the typos and the wording for now :-)

What do you think about it?

Created an attachment (id=47706)
proof-of-concept of the proposed installation method - not a real languagepack

the first step (making the build not fail) is rather easy - the main question
is:

How to distribute the language packs?

My proposal:
Provide a dmg with a tarball with the data, along with an applescript to install

reasons:
dmg with "manual install" as apple calls it (drag'n'drop) alone doesn't work
since there is no option to merge contents of the directories, only to replace

"managed install" (as apple calls it) - i.e. installing using a pkg/the
installer prog is not really an option, since you need to be admin to build it
with correct permissions (with the tarball you can define permissions that
should be kept if possible), and you need to specify whether the user should
authenticate as administrator right at the beginning, before you even had a
chance to detect whether the user installed OOo to his home-directory.

applescript allows to run stuff "with administrator privileges" that in turn
will bring up the identification dialog and finding installed instances of OOo
can be done with mdfind "kMDItemDisplayName == 'OpenOffice.org*' &&
kMDItemContentType == 'com.apple.application-bundle'" (thanks Shaun) and/or by
letting the user choose a install.

I working on a first hack to demonstrate..

The file
/Volumes/FREECOMHDD/ooo/builds/cws/source/instsetoo_native/unxmacxi.pro/OpenOffice_languagepack/portable/listfile/en-US/epm_OpenOffice_gid_Module_Root_unxmacxi_SRC680__en-US.lst
has some ugly/wrong file names, such as:
d 755 root bin /Applications/openoffice.org2.2 -
d 755 root bin /Applications/openoffice.org2.2/LICENSEs -
d 755 root bin /Applications/openoffice.org2.2/OpenOffice.org 2.2.app -

d 755 root bin /Applications/openoffice.org2.2/OpenOffice.org
2.2.app/Contents/MacOS/help/en/sdatabase.idx -

There is also a problem since there is a space in these files names.
