@obr:
That's a good thing. I remember having this in mind, too (moving the
declarations to the main bundle's
Info.plist).
OK, so I'll adapt to your changes.

Sorry for the delay. I just moved the UTI definitions from the spotlight plug-in
to the main application bundle, added the missing "public.mime-type" entries and
renamed the types to match the ones defined by Apple in Leopard
"org.oasis-open.*" in CWS obr08.

I had to rebuild the launch service database afterwards to get the change
effective, but this might be because I had so many Office version installed
already.

However, I'll send a heads-up to the list with links to how to fix this issue as
soon as I have finished the CWS. As also Neo uses the incorrect UTI's (without
the "-open"), we probably should include this hint to the MacOS X FAQ and readme
anyway.

For anyone wanting to read up on UTIs:
http://developer.apple.com/macosx/uniformtypeidentifiers.html

I will let the UTIs for the Spotlight and QuickLook plugins as they are for the
time being. If some of you
still disagree, then please come forward with alternative suggestions.

QuickLook'ing an attached odt file in 'Mail' works fine even though the Content
type is
application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text (see below):

--Boundary_(ID_Id0i+d9YyWoTaSjhmQ/F/A)
Content-type: application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.text;
 name=Infrastructure-Issues.odt
Content-transfer-encoding: BASE64
Content-disposition: inline; filename=Infrastructure-Issues.odt

But how is the mapping done ? by extension ?

As it seems now, UTI names and mime types are two different things, but should
probably re-use the
ones defined by Apple instead of duplicating the UTI definition.

Actually the mime-types registered at iana start with vnd.
(vnd.oasis.opendocument.*), while QuickLook defines org.oasis-open.* .

Oh, I forgot that we never came along to register the vnd.sun.xml stuff at IANA
(IIRC because IANA was not happy with naming scheme). However, this is what we
communicated all the time as the mime type for sx[wcdpm] and many web server
will return it as the mime type.

But I wouldn't care too much about sx* anymore, odf is much more important.

Is there a browser plugin for QuickLook already ? The odt files I have tried on
the web are always directly saved to disk, but I am not sure whether they are
supposed to be displayed inside the browser window (using QuickLook) yet.

@obr:
I can find the types registered for vnd.oasis.opendocument.*, but only
vnd.sun.wadl+xml for vnd.sun.* on
http://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/application/ or are the sun.* to be
found somewhere
else?

Reopenign the issue to fix this.

Both sets of UTIs do not comply to with what we have registered at iana.org
(vnd.sun.xml and vnd.oasis.opendocument).

This might lead to documents not recognized correctly when downloaded via
web-browser or attached to an email (not tested yet). If this is the case, we
should probably contact Apple to get this corrected.

Right now the Spotlight plugin has UTIs set for org.openoffice.* and org.oasis.*
To be consistent with what is defined in the QuickLook plugin, add the
corresponding org.oasis-open.*
types.
