Again it works when you initially set it up, but the link is to a copy of the html page stored in the Temporary Internet Folders cache. When OOo is asked to Update, it uses the copy in cache and does not force Windows to refresh the copy in cache first. I understand that it is normal Windows behaviour to download any internet file to cache before opening it, but there must be a way for OOo to force the cache to refresh other than by recreating the link. Excel manages it OK. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Linux users in the community forum do not experience the same problem. I am trying to link a sheet to a tab delimited file accessed through the internet. I create an externally-linked sheet through 'Edit - Insert - Sheet from File' with the 'Link' box ticked. A browse window opens to select the file. I enter the url of the file in the form 'http://www.website.com/folder'file.xls' with filetype 'Text CSV(*.csv;*.txt;*.xls)'. The 'Text Import' window appears displaying data from the source file. I click OK and the 'Text Import' window closes, leaving the 'Insert Sheet' window. The linked file now shown in this window is located on my local hard drive in 'Documents and Settings/User/Local Settings/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE/F2UIVQCW/file.xls' ie it is a local copy of the file on the remote server. If I click OK on the 'Insert Sheet' window, the data from the source file appears correctly on the sheet. However, when the 'Update' function is invoked, either on reopening the file or through 'Edit - Links - Update' the data on the sheet is refreshed from the copy on the local drive and not from the source file on the remote server. The copy on the local drive is not synchronised with the original source file prior to the update function being performed. The only way I can force a true update is by clicking 'Modify' in the 'Edit Links' window and re-entering the url of the source file ie by recreating the link each time I want to update. Since this behavious does not occur under Linux, I assume it is a defect, rather than an enhancement. I appreciate I could use a program such as WGET to synchronise the local file with the source file outside OOo, but this should not be necessary. This type of linkage to an external text file is very straightforward in Excel. I will attach screenshots showing what I have described. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
