I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 (32bit) with the current version of OpenOffice.org which is 3.2.1 which I downloaded from the openoffice.org site. Did you follow the steps I mentioned? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This makes OpenOffice Calc unusable. I'll look for another spreadsheet program. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Is there a way I can do that? I think the issue may be related to the fact that the "32536,89765" format for dates is the default one. However in "Options" I can't find any way to change the default date format!!! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However I have found one that I can attach, so here it is. The attached file only has one date, but if it had more, the same would happen to ALL dates in the sheet. To test, enter some NUMBER into any cell that is currently empty. Then scroll down the document untill the cell containing the date is out of screen. Then scroll up again... et voila, the date has changed format!! With some other documents, scrolling was not needed: the format would change immediatly. In other cases, the format of dates in the same row as the edited cell would change immediately, while all other cells would change after scrolling. Note that though the file is in XLS format, it was not created with Microsoft Excel, it was created with a previous version of OpenOffice.org I insist that priority should be changed to a higher one, because this causes permanent data loss (though the data you loose is formatting information). But I don't known if higher numbers after the "P" mean higher priority or lower priority. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=115263 Issue #|115263 Summary|date format changed when opening an xls file Component|Spreadsheet Version|OOo 3.2.1 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|spreadsheet Reported by|matteosistisette --- Additional comments from matteosistise...@openoffice.org Tue Oct 26 19:53:56 + 2010 --- I had some files saved from OpenOffice Calc 3.2.0 in XLS format, with a lot of dates all in the format 31/12/2010 I used to open, edit and save those XLS files with Calc 3.2.0 on a daily basis without issues. Now I've upgraded to version 3.2.1 and a very weird thing happens: 1) I open one such file. All dates are shown correctly. If I select some cell with a date and choose "format cells" I can see its format is "31/12/2010" 2) As soon as I enter ANYTHING in ANY cell (provide there is some date in another cell in the same line), ALL the existing dates in the document suddenly become numbers, such as 40472. Now, if I click on a cell with a date and click "format cells", i see its format is "35625,56789..." By the way I'd like to raise the priority, since such a bug makes the whole program completely useless, but I don't know whether "P1" is a higher or lower priority than "P2" - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
