The structure of the current chart implementation does not allow a flexible assignment of spreadsheet columns as different x-values. This fact was one of the main reasons to decide to re-implement the chart. See for example the specification at http://specs.openoffice.org/chart/dataselection/FlexibleSourceRangeSelection.sxw. The problem with this feature is, that the old chart code has come to the end of its capabilities. So we started to create a new chart to be able to integrated some important missing features from one of them is this. Creating a complete new module is a big task and we will not manage it for the next version as far as we can see. I am sorry about that.
