Yes, I tried Memtest and it's most probably a memory problem in my computer.
However Open Office 2.0 is surely more demanding in this respect.

Thanks for your support,
Gianluca

Hi Gianluca,

have you used the mem test ?

OOo1.1.4 needs less memory compared to OOo2.0 to open the file because 2.0 has
to translate the sxc to ods structure before showing it on the screen. So this
could be a memory problem.

Please give us an answer until Nov. 16, 2005. Otherwise I have to close this
Issue as invalid.

hi Gianluca, I just...
  + Downloaded your file SOFFICE2crash.xls
  + Started OOoCalc
  + File Open SOFFICE2crash.xls
without a problem. Perhaps it is a language issue. What Operating System are
you using? and What language is it running as?

I saved your file as ods format and attached it. How does that go for you?

Well, I'm the starter of this issue. I installed 2.0.0 final in another WinXP PC
and the SOFFICE2crash.xls file opens without crashing Open Office. However it
keeps on doing on the first WinXP PC which is based on a different motherboard.
Both WinXP's are in english language and Open Office 2.0.0 is in english so it's
not a language issue. I'll add some details of the crash occurring in the first
WinXP PC : about one second after launching the SOFFICE2crash.xls file Open
Office opens and alerts that system memory is not enough (or something
similar) and then crashes. Actually the system memory is 1Gb and it's 90%
free... I thought about a lack of HD space in the main/system/boot partition and
so I freed up 300Mb to no avail. The problem persists but please consider that
Open Office 1.1.4 works perfectly on that PC and opens the SOFFICE2crash.xls :
so the issue may be PC-related or OS-config-related, but definitely it's also
Open Office-release related because 1.1.4 works. It's something dealing with the
system memory management of Open Office 2.0.0 , I think.

Thanks :-)

Gianluca
