Your problem doesn't fit to this issue. If you have problems with using Open
from URL, describe it in a new issue. For me your URL works fine. I get the
csv-import dialog as expected for a csv-file.

Hi,

the second attachment isn't an Excel XML but an Excel HTML file. To open such
files, just use the correct filter, in this case the HTML or the webquery
filter.

The problem with opening and just saving is that the file is written to the same
format as it was opened. So a HTML has to be saved as XLS with the Save As ...
oprtion from the file menu in Excel.

As this isn't a defect, the file isn't a valid xls but a HTML file, I close this
Issue as Invalid. Sorry for no better reply.

Tested this with oodev 160 on Winxp.
Though explicitly specified Microsoft XL 2003 XML (from the spreadsheet section)
in the open dialog the file opens with Writer.
After opening with XL and saving with the extension XLS, Calc opened it
corectly!!! Perhaps a filter error?

I use MS Excel 2000 and when I open the XL 2003 XML file in Excel and save it as
a .xls spreatsheet, calc still opens the result as writer/web.

Hi Martine,

could you attach an Excel file showing this problem ? If the file opens with
writer/web, it's most probably a HTML file with XLS extension. As this file
isn't a valid binary Excel file but an text based HTML file it's correct that it
opens in writer/web. So this is probably a double to some other Issues.

Hi Martine,

you can open such files by using the appropriate filter in the file open dialog.
In your case 'Microsoft Excel 2003 xml (*.xml) or just rename the file to the
correct extension XML.
