I don't know why people who never worked in mathematics claim that this issue is invalid, when EVERY major mathematical package handles: -4^2 = -(4^2) = -16!!! It would be more appropriate to close this issue as a double of issue 66735 (see http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=66735). This latter issue is still open.
