In OO 2.4 there was no problem with opening the same files. The files are attached. I tried remove all the startup programs, but this has not fixed the problem. OO starts (by opening the small blue window - Open Office Beta 3.0) but then freeze. I can see in task manager 2x soffice.bin and 2x soffice.exe with no CPU activity and some used memory. This will not happen if you open only one Calc file through StartUp.
