I've just experienced it again. Writer recovered my file but it was a much older version of the file from several hours before the crash occurred. Actual document: $ ls -l /home/ldd/Documents/Nyayanusara_Fragments.odt -rw-r--r-- 1 ldd ldd 68148 2008-12-12 10:42 /home/ldd/Documents/Nyayanusara_Fragments.odt But here is what I found: $ find /home/ldd/.openoffice.org -name "Nyaya*" /home/ldd/.openoffice.org/3/user/backup/Nyayanusara_Fragments.odt_1.odt $ ls -l /home/ldd/.openoffice.org/3/user/backup/Nyayanusara_Fragments.odt_0.odt -rw--- 1 ldd ldd 69634 2008-12-12 15:38 /home/ldd/.openoffice.org/3/user/backup/Nyayanusara_Fragments.odt_0.odt If I open this file, the changes up to the crash are present. So it seems that Open Office *saves* the changes but is not able to *recover* them. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sc-issues] [Issue 94134] auto-recovery does not fun ction
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=94134 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Oct 29 09:51:34 + 2008 --- I had this issue just now with OOO300m9 (build 9358) in Draw. No beta, the public 3.0.0 release. No custom settings, auto-recovery saves every 15 mins. I did send a crash report. It happened while editing a form input in form design mode. This happened a lot in OOo2, but has improved significantly in OOo3. However, the behaviour of the auto-recovery has degraded to the point of uselessness: before, when OOo2 crashed, it start auto-recovering the open files. This resulted in 2 open files: a version of the file with all latest changes to the file just as they were the moment before the crash, and a reverted version of the last manual save. In OOo3 however, after the crash the autorecovery started as I was accustomed to, but this time only the rather old reverted version that dated to the day before came up. The several auto-recovery saves I had seen while editing (I know there were some, because the program freezes for the duration of the save) were ignored. Needless to say, I lost a morning's worth of work. This is a unacceptable degradation of functionality to me, as crashes do occur. I'll keep an eye out, but for now I'll downgrade to OOo2.4. The more frequent crashes might be annoying, but 2.4 handled them without any data-loss, which makes them not that much of an inconveniance to me. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. LOST OF DATA (and OO3.0 crash a lot of time, at this time it is much more unstable as 2.4.2) IS A MAIN PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, it makes hard to use and test beta version if the tester loose data every second day. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
