Next time if you want me to review an urgent patch, please assign the corresponding issue to me. The fix looks reasonable as it limits the new conversion functionality to the right type combination. Before many types could be affected depending on the type's internal bit mask accidentally. I agree that this could be a showstopper as the bug can cause completely unexpected results and it's difficult to describe all scenarios it could appear.
