Please reopen when you will have find a reproducible test environment:
- Either Windows OOo 2.4/3.1
- Or Linux (no distro OOo but an install set from our site) 2.4/3.1
- Or Linux/Windows from the same OOo version.

Everything else (Linux 3.0.1 - outdated - with Windows 2.4) is too time
consuming for not a lot of output.

@MRU: that is very well possible; I have not checked it, and do not know how to.
One thing of importance: not only the line spacing in Linux was slightly
shorter, the character or spacing was slightly wider. If just the font would have
been scaled down with, let us say 5%, then both spacing would be shorter and the
characters denser.
So if the charcter set is different, than it is not just size, but also the
ratio between height and width.

MRU->HDU: could it be that the "Times New Roman" font on a Windows and on an
Ubuntu have slightly different metrics?

As I said, it is 2.4.1 on Windows and 3.0.1 on Ubuntu 8.0.4

Where the 2.4.1 version came from, I do not know since it was a public system. I
suppose they would download it for OOo.org.

The 3.0.1 came from the repository:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/openoffice-pkgs/ubuntu main/universe/multiverse (three
different lines)

Does this help?

I cannot install anything on the Windows system (since this is a public system)
and I do not know how to install both 2.4.1 and 3.0.1 on one linux box, without
running into confusions. I do expect that the Open document format can really be
transferred between systems without changing the layout or whatever.

- Do you use an Ubuntu build or a native OOo build from our site? Please always
use native builds to report here.
- Did you compare Linux 2.4 vs 3.0.1 and Windows 2.4 vs 3.0.1? It would help to
see if it's more a platform or version difference.

Created an attachment (id=61572)
document with a sample line that shows the issue of the character spacing
Filling it up with text all the way will also show the line spacing I assume.
The line is taken from a document that demonstrated the problem. I believe any
document would have it (checked all the settings in page, paragraph and font)
and the orginal document is confidential, so I would need to creat a document
in order to show a full example.

line spacing different between 3.0.1 on lx and 2.4 on Wxp TS

I have same document and printed it from
(1) a linux ubuntu 8.04 with OOo 3.0.1 build 9379
(2) Windows (XP? W2003? Terminal Server) with OOo 2.4 (not sure subversion)

Came out different. Laid both sheets on top of each other and noticed the
following differences:
1. Linux used a very slight shorter double-line spacing: 17 double lines on
linux with v3.0.1 equaled 16 double lines with Ooo v2.4 on Windows.
Double lines mean: I had Line Spacing = double turned on in Format->Paragraph.
The first line on the page started in exact the same position as far as I could
tell by eye (I laid them on top of each other). Then the 17th line of the v3
print was at the same position as line 16 of the v2.4 print. This implies that
there were 16 white-lines in between. This is about 15.0cm from center of line
to center of line 17 (or 16 in v2.4).

2. Linux used a slight "wider" writing: in some cases the line breaks of
differently. Here is an example:
OOo v3.0 on one line:
"power is not only spiritual, unembodied, but applies to the redemption of the
whole person" (the word 'body' is on the next line).
OOo v2.4 on Windows one line:
"power is not only spiritual, unembodied, but applies to the redemption of the
whole person, body"
It is EXACTLY the same document (just copied by putting it on a website by the
Linux machine and then downloadeding onto the Windows machine). Both using Times
New Roman, both 2.54cm (=1 inch) margins on Letter (8.5 inch) paper. Both no
special kerning or spacing of the font. Example included
: I used 1 inch margins (Alignment is left, not justified).

Obviously I expect that the spacing of letters and lines is exactly the same
accross platforms and across versions.

I have a sample document with exactly this line, but do not know how the upload
it. Let me know if any other info is needed.

Tried to search in issues but did not find the same one. 38332, 34001 and 59115
are different.
