Tested it with native 3.1.1 and 3.2 dev build OOO300m6 on WinXP, ubuntu 9.10 and SUSE 11. Do you work on a certain Linux distribution, e.g. ubuntu or Fedora running the by-packed OOo build? It seems to be related to some special character that Openoffice tries to produce/render for something in the from:...-line of the googlemail-email. As soon as I scroll to the part, where the from-line should be shown (scrolling back up after having pasted the mail), Openoffice crashes.
