MRU-MST: I also managed to reproduce this in our SunRay environment. I will
forward you the mail soon. Just copy the English content from Thunderbird into
Writer and you will see that the string (Brétigny, Brussels, Budapest,
Luxembourg and Prague) will be turned to (Brétigny, , and ) in Writer.

This appears to only be a problem on Linux.

I have tried copying from both Outlook and Thunderbird into a fresh OOo document
under Windows XP and the copy works fine. Hope this helps.

I copied text from an email (Thunderbird) into an OOo document. All of the text
copied correctly except for known placenames - Europe, Brussels, Prague,
Luxembourg. (The placename Brétigny was, however, copied.)

e.g. Copying the text (Brétigny, Brussels, Budapest, Luxembourg and Prague)
produces (Brétigny, , and ) in OOo. Note that one comma is also missing.

Pasting from the same buffer into a simple text editor (gedit) copied all text
correctly.

If I save the gedit text file, re-open it and copy the text from there, it is
correctly received by OOo!

This has happened on several occasions. It happens in a new OOo document as well
as with a previously used document.

I cannot reproduce this problem. Tested it with native 3.1.1 and 3.2 on WinXP,
Solaris, Ubuntu 9.10 and SUSE 11. Do you work on a certain Linux distribution,
e.g. Ubuntu, SUSE or Fedora running the by-packed OOo build? In this case,
please refer to the distributors support or even run the native OOo builds which
can be downloaded from OpenOffice.org.

The problem was due to additional markup added to the original mail (unbeknown
to the sender of the mail) by MS Outlook. Apparently, Outlook creates
smarttags around place names. Here are two snippets of source from the
original message as an example.

development of the future ATM system =
in=20
?xml:namespace prefix =3D st1 ns =3D =
urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags=20
/st1:placeEurope/st1:place. Activities are aligned =

which seems to be the place in the message where the smarttags were
initialised, then used; and

5 sites (Br=E9tigny,=20
st1:Cityst1:placeBrussels/st1:place/st1:City,=20
st1:placest1:CityBudapest/st1:City,=20
st1:country-regionLuxembourg/st1:country-region/st1:place and=20
st1:Cityst1:placePrague/st1:place/st1:City) under one=20
management.

Copying the text into a basic text editor such as gedit removes this markup.
