Ok, I haven't realized before it was MathType 6.0.

You say you were not able to reproduce the problem - does it mean you could work
with the formula normally or you could display it correctly (eventhough it is
later version than 3.0)?

Thanks for your time.
Robert

tl-rbrtzmck: Since it is a MathType 6 formula it can not be edited from with
OOo (unless you are running a MathType OLE server as well, which basically means
that you have installed MathType 6 as well).
But I can see the replacement image and it looks as it should, that is similar
to the word png you provided in the zip archive, namely with no incorrect
characters displayed.

Good, then the problem is with my fonts. I will reinstall.

Closing issue, I am also not able to reproduce this on my Win7.
It must be a problem of the fonts on your system.

I created a math formula in MS.Word 2003 XP. When I open it with OO Writer, the
formula is corrupted - especially the big symbols like braces, integrals etc.
(the strange characters are from Czech fonts). You can check the *.doc file and
2 screenshots (Word and OO) in this ZIP:

http://www.kme.zcu.cz/zemcik/oo/problem.zip

The version I use is seen from the screenshot.

Regards,
 Robert

tl-rbrtzmck: I can't reproduce your problem, neither with OOo 3.2.1 nor with
OOo 3.3.
Anyway the formula included in the test.doc file is a seems to be a MathType 6.0
object. Since MathType import is only supported up to version 3.0 this means
what gets displayed in OOo is only the replacement image for the formula. That
means the problem is not with the import but at the time of the creation of that
image.

Right now me best guess is that you have a font-problem. Did you at some time
install OOo 3.3? The font/code that must be used with OOo 3.2.1 is different
from the font/code that is used by OOo 3.3 due to fixes with character code
points.

If you do not know if your font is messed up I suggest to deinstall OOo 3.2.1
AND all StarSymbol/OpenSymbol fonts from your system and then install a new
OpenOffice 3.3. That way you can make sure that you have only the correct font
for OOo 3.3 installed.
Having installed different versions of the font spell for trouble.
Be sure to install the new OOo 3.3 as root, otherwise the setup process can not
guarantee to to get the new font properly installed.
