I've also tested this issue on OO3.1.0. Selection works OK now.

But what is still MISSING from a "user experience" point of view is this:

Clicking once at the left side of a text line marks nothing in Writer. In MS
Word this already marks this single text line. Adapting the Writer behavior to
the Word one would make changes from Word to Writer smoother for new OO users.

I personally used to use this "click once behavior" a lot in Word.
