Please check that "Tools - AutoCorrect - Language" where you entered the
autocorrection is the same as "Tools - Options - Language Settings - Languages -
Default languages for documents - Western"!

the Unicode character of the arrow symbol is U+2192, the font is "Andale  
Mono". Currently, OOo 2.0.0.1 (Novell, SuSE 10) simply replaces the arrow with  
"=>" as soon as I close the autoreplace dialog.
