To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=30503 User sba changed the following: What|Old value |New value CC|''|'sba' Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |INVALID --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri May 16 13:17:21 + 2008 --- The described scenario "One setting must meet all users needs because we share machines" is not a problem of this time. Sharing a machine does not mean sharing the same user settings for the office. Simple batch files can shift user-specific settings in a few seconds without a reboot or log-off, only an office restart is needed. English is a good example of "getting along well without using the Shift key at all". The other side is that this makes users "lazy". In German, where all nouns start capitalized, users are USED to use the shift key several times in an average sentence. However, it is understandable that english typing shift-key-avoiders expect the software to do this for them. And this leads to the dilemma of "abbbreviation at the end of sentences". Not setting or options in AutoCorrect can ever solve this. Only a grammar check can spot "the end of a sentence". For OOo 3.0, grammar check API is already available and grammar check UI support is on the way, too. Now it takes deployers of grammar checking tools to get them ready als extension for OOo. I therefore propose to close this issue because - AutoCorrect can not solve this problem. - It will be solved "along" with the introduction of grammar checkers. Set to "Invalid". - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I do think that a word processor ought to do many things more than a text editor - and that differentiating between abbreviations and end of sentence is long overdue and has impications for internationalisation. Let's have some real innovation, lads and ladies. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Not only could that avoid the erroneous auto-capitalisation, it could mark the preceding word as an Abbreviation style (A "word" style? see issue# 44879) so that all abbreviations could later be italicised, for example, or listed in a glossary (for expansions to be added). Or counted. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
