You are right that the problem probably seems to lay somewhere in the Mandriva's configuration, and probably specific to it. There, the document is initially opened with the David font completely anti-aliased (despite the fact that David is aliased to David CLM on my system) when I convert the entire document to David CLM, it looks fine.
