Found on OOo Beta2 (680m125_8947)

A small yellow rectangle marks the position of a note in a document. To open the
note for editing, double-click the rectangle.
If your file contains more than one note, the Edit Note dialog contains previous
and next arrows to move between the different notes.

I am able to edit a note by double clicking on it.  

The help menu (under inserting notes) does not mention this:

Inserts a note at the current cursor position. To view or edit the contents of 
a note, select the note and choose this command.
