Confirmed (probably) for Linux/OOo 2.0.0 also.

I tried creating a large table (7000 rows by 10 columns) from a text file.
Writer successfully read the text and converted it to a table (although that
conversion took 15'), but I could not select/modify the whole table at once,
and on saving re-opening, most of the data was lost.

Based on the reports here, I assume this is all the same bug.

Limit of 65535 cells in some internal ops? Just a guess.

confirming for WinXP, OOo 2.0RC2:
When saving the file as .odt or .sxw, most of the content will be lost. When
saving as .doc, the file will be broken (Word03 crashes on first attempt to open
but can repair the file in a second run. COntent seems to be ok after the
repair.)

Leaving P, as we have a data loss here
