With the language-status-bar-control implemented there it would have been quite obvious that the language setting is the problem. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Either you don't have a German dictionary and nothing will happen or you have a German dictionary and almost everything will be marked as misspelled. If you have an English dictionary installed you probably just have to set the language of the text to English (US) and everything will be fine... - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I used attached file and no dictionary appeared in the dictionary drop down box and "The spellcheck is complete" came up. But then I created new file copied and pasted the same misspelled text in the new document and the spell check worked fine. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 82672] Spellcheck doesn't work if you ran it first time without a dictionary
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=82672 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Jul 19 03:08:43 + 2008 --- There's definitely a problem of some kind. In version 2.3, the spell checker worked fine out of the box on a windows platform. Now I've done a virgin install of xubuntu, loaded up OO 2.4 and the spell check exits immediately without spell checking. Just install, create a new document, paste a bunch of text and try running spell checker. The modal dialog comes up, asks to continue at the top. If I say yes, then it says checking is complete and exits; if I say no, it exits. No dictionary appears in the dictionary drop down. I don't expect to have to be a software engineer to use this facility. But hey, I'm just some stupid user. This is the US English version, too. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=82672 Issue #|82672 Summary|Spellcheck doesn't work if you ran it first time witho |ut a dictionary Component|Word processor Version|OOo 2.3 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|configuration Assigned to|mru Reported by|finnglarsen --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 16 17:20:41 + 2007 --- If you run the spellcheck without having a dictionary installed for the language in question, the spellchecker will just say "spellcheck complete" in staed of warning the user that there is not dictionary present. This is an old issue (24439). But if you install a wordbook, it doesn't in fact change anything - documents still aren't spellchecked. If you ran the first spellcheck without a wordbook, the only way to have OOo actually do spellchecking is to remove the user configuration and restart the program as if it was the first time (with license acceptance etc.). Then, if you install a wordbook *before* running spellcheck, the spellcheck will actually work. This behaviour is very annoying for Danish users since the Danish distribution at this point comes without a Danish dictionary. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
