I also do not have such a tree view for every level in the Navigator with your
document. Maybe this is available only on certain window manager / desktop theme
(I do not have it with native OOo build on Windows or Fedora. Maybe it is
special Novell or Fedora build?

MRU-drhatch: Is your OOo 2.4 installation a native download from OOo site or
was it included in your Linux distribution?

HelpAbout says:
created by Debian and Ubuntu based on OpenOffice.org ...
openoffice.org-core 1:2.4.0-3ubuntu6, Tue Apr 22 02:27:09 UTC 2008
Apparently they have an improvement that is ahead of the OOo mainstream. I have
not been able to find where this code change is documented.

Perhaps this now becomes a requirements issue, like 79603. Perhaps it will be
satisfied for OOo3 by issue 64886 work still in progress.

In navigator content view, the ability to expand/contract the heading tree,
using the +/- icons, is omitted. It is present in version 2.4.0.

I do not see this. MAybe you switched the content view in the Navigator? The
second button in the second row in the Navigator should not be pressed to have
the collapse feature.

This is regarding the expand/collapse within the headings tree itself, and thus
applies whether or not the content view is selected.

If I open the attached file with OOo 2.4.0 and look in the navigator window, I
can see small squares to the left of each leading (containing a + or -) except
the lowest level heading. These can be used to individually expand/collapse that
particular part of the heading tree. In 3.0Beta, these do not appear.
