tobiaskrais - mav: I Upgraded from Debian to Sun OOo. Now I am no more able to
reproduce the failure. Even OOo 2.4.0 repairs the document correctly and
generates the missing manifest.xml file. Can you confirm this? If yes, this is
not a bug.

Yes, it works well at least in OOo3.0. Thank you for checking this.

AMA-MAV: Documents without manifest.xml are broken, aren't they?

Exactly, the META-INF/manifest.xml is a part of the file format. A document that
does not have this part is broken.

But the repairing mechanics should be improved to repair the mentioned file
successfully.

We upgraded from OOo 1.1.4 to OOo 2.4. OOo now claims when opening many
documents, that they are defect and should be repaired, while OOo 1.1.4 opens
them like a charm (see the attatched document without_manifest.sxw). When
repairing the documents automatically with OOo 2.4, they are just empty. For
this I unpacked the sxw file and detected, that the /META-INF/manifest.xml file
is missing. I wrote such a manifest.xml and packed a new sxw document. Now, OOo
2.4 opens the document without problems, even without a repair dialogue.

Shouldn't OOo generate the missing manifest.xml files automatically?

Created an attachment (id=54587)
SXW document without /META-INF/manifest.xml. OOo 1.1.4 opens it like a charm,
OOo 2.4 repaires it incorrectly.
