Itis not in our intention to get more compatibility by reducing OOo functionality. It could not be done anything on the problem that these notes/comments are also not visible in OOo after saving in doc format, because the doc format won't allow this to us. I also do not think that it is a good idea to put the notes/comments content into the normal text of a footnote. This might affect the layout of a document and lead to footnotes and text moving onto next page where people will complain about hey my document does not look like in MS Word If you would like to have a message saying this is not possible in doc format, feel free to file an Enhancement issue. But keep it general, cause there are also other features in OOo which MS Office is not capable of showing. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. However, I am not sure that this is just an MS development issue. It's a compatibility issue. (What say Microsoft don't add this feature?) Openoffice seems to have put a lot of energy into improving OOo Writer/Word compatibility. I just wonder if there's not something that can be done here? If people who convert to openoffice then realise that Word can't read notes they have inserted in OOo, they are likely to return to Word, simply because most people use it. One big PROBLEM is that if you insert a note in a footnote in a .doc document in OOo, save and close, and then reopen the document in OOo, then the note will have disappeared. The note you inserted in OOo will no longer be visible in OOO. Is this not a problem? (I worked all day on something recently and lost all the notes I added. It was .doc becaue I wanted to email it to someone afterwards.) Secondly, isn't it a good thing for whatever content you add in OOo to be visible in some form in Word, despite Word's limitations? Could notes inserted (using OOo) in footnotes in .doc documents not appear as comments following the footnote number in the main body of the text, for example, with a little 'Comment re. footnote 3' added in? (I am no programmer - just giving a users perspective.) Alternatively, if someone is working on a .doc document and they try to insert a note, maybe a warning could appear: 'WARNING: .doc documents don't support notes inserted in footnotes. Your note will not be saved if you close this document' ??? Maybe the warning could appear the first time they add any note in an .odt doc. 'WARNING: if you later save your file as .doc, some of your notes will disappear'. Gwyn - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I inserted a note in a FOOTNOTE (using the new Insert Note feature). The note shows up in the margin (and looks very nice). The problem: If I close the document and reopen it in MS Word, the note will have disappeared completely. (This is a big compatibility issue because my colleagues using Word can't read all the notes I insert in OOo.) NB: This problem ONLY occurs with notes inserted into footnotes. If I insert a note in the main text of a .doc document, it WILL be displayed correctly when I open the document in Word.
