I've tried many invocations, such as, LC_PAPER=de_DE.UTF-8 oowriter. LC_PAPER does not seem to be recognised, throws up a couple of errors and is ignored. Re-testing on a newer version of Mandriva (2009.1 rc2) did not throw up any errors, but still did not work. Setting LC_LOCALE to de, DE, de_DE, or de_DE.UTF-8 all had the same effect - none, not even any errors except for a GTKspinbutton that seems to be irrelevant. I also downloaded OOo_3.0.1_LinuxIntel_install_wJRE_en-US.tar.gz today from Openoffice.org, rather than rely on Mandriva's (potentially) broken RPMs. After setting all LC_* variables to de_DE and running swriter the problem persists. New documents default to a printer setting of US letter, although the page size, Format - Page... does default to 21x29.7 which is A4. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Using CUPS... The paper size keeps going back to Letter. As either an ordinary user or as root all of the LC* variables can be set to de_DE then running spadmin the printer is correctly listed as HP psc-1310 series. Clicking on Properties displays a Paper size of Letter. It can be set to A4, but it does not even stick if I click OK and Properties again. Other settings seem to stick. Disabling CUPS... Two printers are visible. The HP behaves as above. The Generic Printer remembers its paper size. Although when a test page was printed it did not fit on an A4 page. So, it might be just reporting A4 rather than doing it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Clicking on File - Printer Settings... - Properties - Paper reveals Letter rather than the desired A4 despite selecting A4 clicking on OK twice. A pop up box offers to save the setting with the active document (even when there isn't one). There is apparently a default empty document somewhere that is Letter. I can't find it to change it. In the meantime all new documents keep defaulting to Letter. Worse, starting with an MS Word doc (which according to Word was an A4 document) the same Letter setting appears in OOo. Saving from OOo as a Word doc, closing OOo, and reopening shows that it is *still* Letter. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
