@tono: I think "#define SYSTEM_WNTGCCI 99" should be in the section above (see
the entire "#ifdef"-block). I skipped this line for now, let us put it in the
right place after the integration

@vq: Sorry, I expected only a couple of build-breakers, sot this many. (I have
just fixwd another in tools/inc/solar.h)

As I have no time on Thursday and Friday, I will come up with the whole
patches for the build breakers for MSVC build (as you know, I have only
windows environment and OpenBSD here) by Sunday. Is it OK?

@vq: external/glibc-2.1.3.patch seemes to be lost in resync. Rev 1.3 is tagged
for m205 but one of Rev 1.2 series is tagged in the CWS. Actually Rev 1.2.0.18
is already removed from the repository.

Rev 1.2 will not work as the makefile is including svpre.mk which have been
already removed.

I have found the followings in the manpage of ld MaxOSX.

"If a static archive library appears after a dynamic shared library on
the command line, the static library is placed in the dynamic library
search list and is searched as a dynamic library. In this way, when a
dynamic library has undefined symbols, it will cause the appropriate
members of the static libraries to be loaded into the output. Search-
ing static libraries as dynamic libraries can cause problems if the
dynamic library later changes to reference symbols from the static
library that it did not previously reference. In this case when the
program runs, the dynamic linker will report these symbols as undefined
because the members for these symbols were not loaded into the output."

I suspect libtool is doing something to avoid this sitiation, omitting static
libraries from the list if they are specified after dynamic libs and causing
link errors. If so, there is no way to find one good sequence for lib
specification.

@tono: please, wait until we get the CWS integrated, do not make any "fixes for
patches". I gonna get rid of these two buildbreakers and integrate the CWS,
otherwise we will never get it in the main trunk. After the integration we can
deal with smaller issues.
If you are missing some changes - we can handle them after the integration.

@vq: Can you give me some time to check lost changes for mingw port itself?
Actually I got a little frustrated because the cws is passed to QA while I
have been checking the lost changes at resyncing and freezed for months.

I should be blamed as the check took too many weeks last time and I think it
better to limit the scope this time to "global" loss only (config_office and
possibly solenv) and probably I can complete it over weekend.

I think it makes sense as nobody can try mingw port if config_office or solenv
includes build breakers for mingw.

@all: If the Mac build break is caused because static libraries are searched
only once in name resolution, we can find one good sequence even if we place
static libraries prior to dynamic libs and we do not have to use .IF ~ .ENDIF,
I think.

I will try to find it after I have checked out the recent cws.

@all: today I will finish the resync and will commit fixes for MacOS build
breakers.

@ericb,maho: As far as I can see - we have 2 problems (MacOS build breaker, and
wntmsci one). For the first I have the fix, and for the second, apparently, too.
After the fixes are applied to the CWS and are tested on correspondent platforms
- I see no reason not to integrate it. So it WILL be integrated if there no more
build breakers will be found.

@vq: can you, please, attach a patch with your fix for the wntmsci problem? If
you need - I can regenerate the configure script(I didn't make it because we
regenerate the script when integrating)

@all

With what I read, we cannot integrate this cws, and must find a solution.

Disclaimer : I'll have to go at work, so I have not too much time this morning.

Waiting can we summarize what is broken, to start patch creation ? AFAI see :

1) Mac OS X is mainly broken because of the library linking order
2) maybe "OOo-style" W32-.NET2003-**sh build. ( sorry if I'm nwrong, I'm not
Windows guru )

3) other ? ( sorry I didn't have time to entirely read the issue )

For Mac OS X part, and because it is a specific Mac need, I propose to protect
older order for MACOSX only in both xmlhelp/util/makefile.mk and
binfilter/filter/source/bf_offwrp/makefile.mk, like in the patches cloph chown
me.

Something like :

.IF "$(OS)"=="MACOS"
(ancient order )
.ELSE
(current mingw change)
.ENDIF

Should be enough. If other than Mac OS X operating system / archs break for the
same reason, then we have to add logical or, and rewrite to match with reality.

I'll have more time this afternoon, and please nevermind if my proposal is
wrong.

@maho: It also breaks the "OOo-style" W32-.NET2003-**sh build.

I looked at the diff for config_office, this is *NOT* OK to be integrated.

I'll comment on a few differences, but this hunk from set_soenv.in is the one
that breaks the W32-build (not tested, but I'm pretty sure):

Overall please watch your indentation in set_soenv.in. Your code looks
significantly different from the code that is already there, please blend in ;)

Also, you forgot to regenerate configure.

For the Mac-breakers, the order of the libraries during linking has to be
reverted to the order where the static libraries come last.

ld's man-page (http://www.hmug.org/man/1/ld.php)
"When a static archive library is specified as an argument to ld, it is searched
exactly once, at the point it is encountered in the argument list. [...]"

http://util.openoffice.org/source/browse/util/xmlhelp/util/makefile.mk?r1=1.9&r2=1.9.26.1
and
http://framework.openoffice.org/source/browse/framework/binfilter/filter/source/bf_offwrp/makefile.mk?r1=1.8&r2=1.8.18.1

@cloph: I have changed the lib sequence just to emphasize the fact that these
static libraries will always be used prior to dll's in name resolution,
assuming that libraries will be searched recursively in all platforms.

In MINGW build, I have chosen direct dll linking because linking with import
libraries consumes huge time and memory. However, direct dll linking actually
does not resolve names in dll in lib specification sequence but only generates
imports. And the imports will be processed only after the name resolution is
completed with specified libraries. Therefore, if there are name conflicts and
dynamic libraries are specified prior to static libs or import libs, the name
resolution will be different in MINGW from in other platforms.

The change of lib sequence is not needed if there are no name conflicts and I
think we can give up them in both cases, if they cause problems in Mac build.

Of course the resolution sequence is essential in uwinapi, I have chosen
import lib for it.

another build-breaker in binfilter/filter/source/bf_offwrp

Again reverting the change of order of the libs solves the problem.
http://framework.openoffice.org/source/browse/framework/binfilter/filter/source/bf_offwrp/makefile.mk?r1=1.8&r2=1.8.18.1
As with the other change in xmlhelp, the commit message doesn't mention why the
order was changed (since it not only one single place, I assume there was a
reason for it) and no comment was added to the makefile either.

the build breaker on Mac (ld failed because of symbols not found) is caused by
the reordering of the libs in xmlhelp/util/makefile.mk

Reverting the reordering (
http://util.openoffice.org/source/browse/util/xmlhelp/util/makefile.mk?r1=1.9&r2=1.9.26.1
)
solves the problem.
I'm not sure whether that change was intentional or not. If yes, that reordering
must me conditionalized for Mac/mingw.

/me builds again to see whether there are other breakers on Mac

I tried a W32-tcsh build, that fails too, see the tinderbox.

It probably works for you because you have the INCLUDE environment variable
set. I don't, it's not needed and might confuse the build. I guess never
milestones even set it to "". (Same for LIB)

Please set (export/setenv) INCLUDE and LIB to "" and see where it failes when
you start your W32-??sh build.

The include paths should come from SOLARINC and it should include the include
directory from the PSDK. This is not the case for me in mingwport03.

Yes, of course you can view the logs anonymously. EIS only embeds the data from
the tinderbox-site for convenience, so that you don't need look for the
tinderbox site yourself.

start from http://go-oo.org/tinderbox/mingwport03/status.html and use the "show
previous # hours link" below the table to see the last Mac result. use the "l L
C" links to open the popup from which you can choose the summary log or the full
log. In this case the last one is
http://go-oo.org/tinderbox/gunzip.cgi?tree=mingwport03&brief-log=1173684529.29252

The links from the comments in EIS might be no longer valid, since old logs get
deleted via a cronjob.

regarding whether a resync is necessary or not: Please coordinate with QA and
RE, maybe a resync is not necessary (as I understand it, QA would like to have
it integrated without resync)

@cloph: I am a biginner with EIS. Can I see the build log of Mac build problem
with guest log in?

If so, I will check it and try fixing during the weeekend.

I am afraid the many conflicts are caused because the based milestone is too
far away from the head. Maybe it is better to try resynchronizing to the most
recent milestone before going on to the gate.

It would be better to resyncronize external/... even if you have not comitted

@tono: please, send me the patches for cws_src680_mingwport03 revision. I have
committed there all changes, that are approved. With your last two patches I got
rejects, that are difficult to handle.

@tono: i would use "--exclude-libs,ALL" for mingw only, because you never know
what can be a build breaker on other platforms. Could you attach your latest
versions of patches? I mean the last 3 modules: python, libxmlsec, moz (separate).
I gonna resync the CWS to the most recent milestone and then - finally - get it
integrated.

@vg: I have modified patches for python and moz based on your comments and
testing the build, but I cannot clearly understand your comment for libxmlsec.
Please see the followings.

1. python

The GETPATH_OBJS='Module/getpath.o in python configure script is corrected. I
also have made changes to separate mingw specific part in configure as much as
possible.
configure script had modified to handle NT_THREADS definition and placing it
in mingw specific section is no longer necessary.

2. libxmlsec
My recent modifications are (1) cygwin specific part (2) mscrypto handling (3)
libtool modification to handle .lib files and I do not think these changes
will affect other platforms as unix platforms do not handle mscrypto nor .lib
files, will they?
I have added "--exclude-libs,ALL" option so that we can use import libraries
in Platform SDK. I had been using reimp utility distributed in mingw tools and
creating .a style import libraries in external project in older patch set.
However, I thought using reimp utility for proprietary libraries is not good
and I have changed the strategy to use those import libraries directly.
Without "--exclude-libs,ALL" the linkage will fail.

3. moz
I have rewritten macros in misc/build/mozilla/widget/src/windows/nsWindow.cpp
as they are not compatible with the w32api headers.
The caution you raised for namings is absolutely right and I have modified
them.

4. setup_native
setup_native/source/win32/customactions/reg4msdoc/registrar.cxx,SHELL_COMMAND:
Yes, it is a build breaker for gcc. gcc does not allow enum names as a scope
specifier.

you moved #undef NT_THREADS out of #ifdef __MINGW32__ section. Is there any

@tono: i do not understand why in moz,
misc/build/mozilla/widget/src/windows/nsWindow.cpp you've rewritten macros. Is
there any reason for that?

misc/build/mozilla/directory/c-sdk/ldap/libraries/libssldap/Makefile:
now DLLSSLDAP is with $(LIB_PREFIX). Are you sure that it will produce the same
library name under UNIX?

@tono: I do not agree with changes in libxmlsec/xmlsec1-1.2.6.patch. Not all the
changes are not clearly "ifdef-ed" for mingw. Of cause I mean the parts, where
you do something different from what we had, not fixes... Please, review the
changes
By the way: why did you add "--exclude-libs,ALL" option there?

@vg: The part of the patch in python is not at all intended. Most probably it
was caused by kind of hardware trouble. Anyways it is my fault.

Actually I have no unix build environment here. The only unix I am using is
OpenBSD, and no port is succeeded for OpenBSD, I think.

I would very much appreciate it if somebody can help me to test the patch
compatibility on unix build embilonment.

@tono: I do not agree with some changes i python
(misc/build/Python-2.3.4/configure): lines 10857-10997 are not as clearly
separated for the port as 10242-10245 for example...
in patch you have GETPATH_OBJS='Module/getpath.o', should be
GETPATH_OBJS='Modules/getpath.o'...
Have you tried the patch on UNIX platforms? Linux, for example? Actually the
patch breakes the build...

@vq: As no implicit rule is defined for GCC before, even if an object is
dependent to .asm, an explicit rule must be specified in the project makefile.
Therfore, simply specifying an implicit rule for all GCC platforms here will
do no harm, I think.
Most probably there is no .asm for non-Windows.
Of course it is OK to replace
.IF "$(COM)"=="GCC"
by
.IF "$(GUI)$(COM)"=="WNTGCC"
or enclosing all implicit rules for .asm with
.IF "$(GUI)"=="WNT"
would be easier to understand.

@tono: I do not understand in solenv/inc/rules.mk:

.IF "$(COM)"=="GCC"
.IF "$(ASM)"=="ml"
   $(ASM) $(AFLAGS) -D$(COM) /Fo$(SLO)$/$*.obj $*.asm
   @+-$(RM) $*.err >& $(NULLDEV)
.ELSE   # "$(ASM)"=="ml"
@+-$(RM) $@ >& $(NULLDEV)
$(ASM) $(AFLAGS) $*.asm,$(SLO)$/$*.obj;
.ENDIF  # "$(ASM)"=="ml"
.ELSE

I think, there is a logic change for all non-MinGW GCC...

@tono: please, provide me patches to the cws_src680_mingwport03 revision on
module basis - I will review and apply them. Yes, some patches are not still
applied - they have been reviwed and raised questions as I mentioned. It's ok to
deliver some new stuff as log as it does not collide with cws_src680_mingwport03
revision. I think, the best strategy is to deliver a new patch set (for
cws_src680_mingwport03) that covers all files, that are still not patched for
whatever reason (well, fixes and new stuff can also be there). Attention: please
deliver one patch file for each module - so I can apply the patches better

@vg: I have checked out cws_src680_mingwport03 and found out some patches not
commented are not still applied.

I assumed that they are not yet reviewed.

Among them, the patches for config_office/set_soenv.in and external/* are
essential and should be included in "initial" port, I think.

In the meantime, these files in addition to config_office/configure.in and
solenv files are modified at my side to cope with cygwin compilers and atl
header files.

Most of the modifications are in conditional parts only for mingw, please
allow me to include these on next upload.

As external/* the whole of previous patch is not applied and the patch is very
large, I will supply it in a separate file.

Therefore the next upload will be a zip of two patch files. One is the
modification based on comments including modification to config_office and
solenv improvements, another is whole external/* modified patch set.

They can be applied to the cws source cleanly and I am doing the final check.

@tono: you can make a patch against -rcws_src680_mingwport03. This branch
contains all reviewed (i.e. approved) changes from your first patch set for
m180. You don't have to bother about resync - I want all sources get commited
first. The files that are not comitted are the ones, that have raised questions.
I do not like rejects while patching - so please make sure that sources with
-rcws_src680_mingwport03 are patchable. Ok, if you want to merge some fixes - go
for it, but I would like to get patches for "problem" files. Please, deliver
patches on module basis and let me know for which revision they are made.
Actually, improvements can be made, but I would like to get at least "initial"
port in the main trunk. The fixed can be applied later, when we don't have to
deal with such a huge bunch of changes.

@vq: I have just noticed that smoe troubles related to the above 2 and 3
maight have been caused by careless removal of '\" quating.

I will check if 2 and 3 are really needed and come back later on.

> 1) Handle '+' character in path names
OK, but this can't be a new problem as I closely followed guw.pl while
writing guw.pl

Well, this happens when you transform perl REs into C ;)

>In mingw environment lib paths and compiler paths include '+'.
This could be considered a bug anyway as '+' is a valid filename character.

> 2) Preserve quote characters after conversion
> Parameter including space character has to stay being quoted after converison.
Do you have an example? If this "parameter" is not a path it might not be
necessary to do anything.

> 3) Do not cause fatal break at making short path
> The parameter may be non-path.
Same thing here. If it's not a path it must not be transformed, doing this
is a bug. Making a short path *must* fail as there is no way to "guess" the
right short path if it isn't a path. I need an example.

4) Convert --= type parameters
Yes, easy enough ;)

@vq: The needed modifications for guw.cc are:

1) Handle '+' character in path names
(And please notify REs in current source of guw.cc includes many unnescesary
backslashes - in blacket expression in POSIX style RE backslash escape is only
effective in rare cases unlike in perl)
In mingw environment lib paths and compiler paths include '+'.

2) Preserve quote characters after conversion
Parameter including space character has to stay being quoted after converison.

3) Do not cause fatal break at making short path
The parameter may be non-path.

4) Convert --= type parameters

Well, if you tell me what you need I can make guw "fixes" independent of your
work.

@vg: As I did no understand the supposed procedures, I have already started
some error fixes and improvements on the same local source tree. Therefore, I
have to edit the patch set and emiminate unchanged and not reviewed patches. I
think I can complete it in this weekend.

I would appreciate it if you let me know the procedure after resync.

I have found out some severe errors which I personally think to be corrected
before merging the cws to the main trunk. And we have to modify the newly
introduced guw.cc before merging to make it work.

Do you thnk it appropriate to introduce some done improvements befiore merging
or should they (improvements and fixes for potential errors) be started in a
diffrerent issue?
