committed, fixed a few ppc specific warnings while I was at it. testtools bridge
tests continue to pass on non soft-float case.

It can be tested even without Java, the bridge is also used even for c++ to c++,
e.g. that =RANDBETWEEN is one of (thousands of such ?, its the common bridge
scenario anyway) c++ -> uno -> c++ cases.

Okay. So I can't test it without Java? The bridge is used to pass arguments
between c++ and java, correct?

Nah, OOo comes with a --without-java configure option so it can be tested
without java. Though right at the moment --without-java is slightly broken
(though it should still be possible to build as far as testtools)

wrt. the debian packaging, I'm not certain how debian has packaged up things,
though I'd certainly expect that the ure package is getting used.

Either way even though I don't have a soft-float toolchain this only affects the
(until now) non-existent ppc soft-float support so we can take it on faith that
the soft-float bit is good if the hard-float stuff continues working :-) Looking
at the ifdefs I see no reason why it wouldn't. I'll take care of this along with
the other one post m66

I try to look at the patch in issue 105680. However since the counterpart is
java I would probably have to get openjdk working, right?

After =RANDBETWEEN(1;100) I got 41 in the cell so I guess it should work okay.
On the other hand, it looks to me like all the bridge stuff is packaged in the
ure debian package. No other package (not calc) does depend on that one. So it
might not be using it at all.

-msoft-float is tricky. gcc will use gprs for all operation and will add little
glue code for operation like + for instance. If you don't have a softfloat
toolchain or atleast soft float multi lib support than this glue code will
contain hard float asm code. So the result will be invalid. If your validation
routine is only something like

test_func_1(float a)
{
 if (a == 1.1)
  pass();
 else
 failed();
}

than it should pass.

cmc->bigeasy: When DEV300_m66 is ready a build in "testtools" will exercise the
bridges and there are a number of float and double tests in there. Otherwise you
can grab the patch at issue 105680 and (maybe after hacking it a little to apply
and do the right thing in an older version) it should work.

In the "real world" off the top of my head I know that in calc
=RANDBETWEEN(1;100)
will exercise returning a double through the uno bridge.

On a normal ppc if I build using gcc -msoft-float then that should be good to
test this right ?

gcc defines __NO_FPRS__ if it does not generate code which uses
dedicated registers for floating point.
This is used on CPUs which don't have FPU unit and don't want to use
Kernel's floating point emulation. Another example are CPUs based on the
e500 core which use SPE extensions for floating point.

The bug was found in version 2.4.1 as shipped in Debian Lenny. The patch is
against git://anongit.freedesktop.org/ooo-build/ure

I've built the version mentioned without Java and Mono. Is it possible to test
this without Java? A small test case where the interfaces are used?
