I didn't mean to leave you in the cold for this long. :-) We just had a good discussion about this on [EMAIL PROTECTED] list. You can see the thread here: http://lists.go-oo.org/pipermail/dev-go-oo.org/2007-December/000190.html and especially this one http://lists.go-oo.org/pipermail/dev-go-oo.org/2007-December/000197.html from Till Kamppeter regarding OpenPrinting.org's recommendation. He basically says that OpenPrinting consortium recommends that we embed fonts to ensure the printouts reflect what's on display. So, I still think that it's best (and probably easiest) to just disable font substitution globally for all locales. Yes, it will make spooling slower for everyone, but we would at least ensure correctness over some minor performance gain (and breakage in some locales). Note that this is not just an issue in the Hungarian locale but other locales have the same problem based on what I hear. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Also we (Hungarian NLC) use it, and we did not find any problem with it. I agree with Kohei to just disable font substitution globally for all locales. Also they can use printer configuration utility bundled with OOo. KAMI - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84481 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Dec 14 10:17:29 + 2007 --- So two solutions for the second problem come to my mind - we could enhance psprint.conf to accept language modifiers, so that we could do something like PerformFontSubstitution=true PerformFontSubstitution[cs]=false - or we could patch psprint.conf to PerformFontSubstitution= where an empty string would be handled in the printerinfomanager.cxx with locale specific code. However both approaches would tie to the locale, so if a user logged in in C or en instead of cs he would get the unwanted behaviour again. Any opinions ? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. In the CUPS case the PPD comes (well, is supposed to come) from the CUPS server anyway, so I'm not sure why you want that patch. With the second patch effectively you say that a downloaded Times (or Helvetica or Courier) font is better than the printer builtin font; that seems doubtful, moreover it will increase the print job size for a pure text doc dramatically. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The accented characters are taken out of a downloaded font which of course mixes badly with the printer builtin (simply because it is different). But do we want to make printing worse for everyone for hungarian ? I think a different solution that perhaps takes the current locale into account would be in order. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The second patch forces downloading of fonts instead of substituting some type of fonts with printer resident fonts. Without this patch, printing accented letters will not work, as reported from the Hungarian community. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
