But that would be very hard to implement: in addition to requiring the obvious extra tracking. In the DS it is possible today for a moderator to add an acceptance comment that is pre-pended to the message body, but currently only via the email moderation interface. It would be simple to always pre-pend some moderation indication to the body if there is no comment. It is not possible to add a somebody as a subscriber of a particular thread. In DS,view and post permissions are independently granted, it is possible to configure discussions so that more people can view (and subscribe) than can post, but every user needs post permission to post. We do not, for example, support the use case where a user without post permission may post with moderation to some discussions. The workaround is that the moderator should be able to approve a message and then force all replies to be sent out to the original sender by way of the CC field. Since it can be accomplished through workaround, marking it as fixed. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I cannot find any documentation on the moderation options you are talking about. Please also answer the questions asked : > Please explain how this can be done today (i.e. with the infrastructure > available to OpenOffice.org) ? > Is there any documentation available about this ? This issue has been open for 3 years(or a few weeks short of it) !!! 3 years to get some reasonable changes to a heavy weight system which (if we could get any real access to it) should be really easy to fix. Please re-read the description originally added for this issue. It's a real shame that a company based on open source tools and supposedly supporting many open source projects fails in such a basic way. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please explain how this can be done today (i.e. with the infrastructure available to OpenOffice.org) ? Is there any documentation available about this ? Please remember that the use case of interest to Openoffice.org is for people who have no idea what mailing lists are or how to use them correctly. We hope that those answering the email will be informed that it is a moderated user ( so that they can make a choice whether to CC: the original poster). Additionally it would be VERY useful if when an email is accepted for moderation the original emailer would receive a reply giving some information about the mailing list ( e.g. FAQs, getting replies, giving sufficient information, other sources of help, etc). These 2 features would greatly enhance the usefulness of the moderation feature. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=24325 User jobin changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|NEW |STARTED --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Dec 1 04:44:09 -0800 2006 --- This request seems useful in the context of our current lists, since a non-member posting to a list would not see any of the replies to his posting. I think it applies mostly to the behavior of 'discuss' lists whereby non-list-subscribers may post but with moderation. This is similar to the new 'trusted' discussion capability, except being trusted or not is independent of subscription. In the new Discussion Service it is possible today for a moderator to add an acceptance comment that is pre-pended to the message body, but currently only via the email moderation interface. It would be simple to always pre-pend some moderation indication to the body if there is no comment. Also in the Discussion Service which would be replacing the existing mailing list in the future there would be more of an permission-based . As view and post permissions are independently granted, it is possible to configure discussions so that more people can view (and subscribe) than can post, but every user needs post permission to post. We do not, for example, support the use case where a user without post permission may post with moderation to some discussions. Our engineers have stated that we would not like to take the path of both summary prefixes and reply-to manipulations as they are fraught with perils and confusion, not to mention long amount of time spent on reaching an amicable solution. Since we have found from the past that Solutions even to simple ideas that involve these tools are very hard, and very controversial, and in the end inescapably unsatisfactory to some portion of our customers. An suggestion of might be making use of moderated-in-sender as a list member *solely* *for* *this* *thread* was discussed . But that would be very hard to implement: in addition to requiring the obvious extra tracking, there's the problem that the fundamental definition of "this thread" is just exactly what we would like stay away from in the first place . - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
