a over b = 1 has a baseline because of = 1.
a over b alone currently has none.

About the new option: that it was needed I was told by our layout formatting
specialist and if he says so I don't doubt him. ^_~

Sorry to insist, but:

. /tl/ said:...And second some formula do not have a baseline internally yet.
At
least this is the case for sth like a over b. There may be other cases...

I don't undestand all details (my english my programming knowledge are poor)
but internally, in math module, OOo seems knowing where line level is, since it
writes on the right position a formula like a over b = 1 over { b over a}=lim
from infinity f? The line position must be calculated somewhere inside...

. And about the too complicated option, il should be possible to use the
existing 'verticaly centered' choice, when object is anchored 'As charcacter'
for this position (align to baseline level), even if the name is unchanged,
because it's more natural and absolutely necessary for scientific community!

I'm sure, like /pascalc/ said, that an uncorrect resolution of this issue would
prevent using OOo in schools and by scientifics... Please, don't forget us ;-)

Regards
