Are you sure your soundcard is not disabled in the BIOS? lspci does not
show any audio devices.

[Alsa-user] VIA K8M890 (8237 chipset) not working with kernel 2.6.18-rc6

2006-09-15 Thread Martin Sarsale
Dear all:
I've just bought this MSI mobo with a VIA K8M890 chipset, and I can't
make ALSA work.
AFAIK the soundcard is supported by ALSA (via 8237): modules load
without problem but do not print anything in dmesg. Then
/proc/asound/cards says there're no soundcards.

This are the loaded modules:

The driver for MIDI devices connected to a serial port is
snd-serial-u16550.

See the documentation of your distribution for how to setup an
additional sound card. The kernel has some documentation in
Documentation/serial-u16550.txt.

[Alsa-user] lower priced pci-audio-interfaces with prof. level balanced connections and 192 kHz [signed]

2006-09-15 Thread Marc Serriola [c]
Hi,

as I have compared the RME cards, which have a good value for price, I
am comparing now lower priced pci-audio-interfaces with prof. level
balanced connections and 192 kHz.

I would like to know your opinions and recommendations to these or other
cards (recommendations) to use them with Linux:

ECHO Mia-midi 149,- EUR
ESI Juli@ 129,- EUR
ESI Maya 4499,- EUR
E-MU 0404 98,- EUR
E-MU 1212M149,- EUR
M-AUDIO Delta 1010LT 197,- EUR
M-AUDIO Delta 44 155,- EUR
M-AUDIO Delta 66 185,- EUR
M-AUDIO Delta Audiophile 192168,- EUR
TERRATEC Phase 22 75,- EUR

1. What do you think or (better) know about audio-quality, value for
price and linux/alsa-compatibility of these cards ?
2. Are the converters in the Maya 44 and 1212M as good as Juli@'s ?
3. Is it correct that Juli@'s converters are the best in this price range ?
4. Do you know of prof. audio-quality alternatives in this price range
that are not listed above ?

...just speak freely...

greetings
Mac
