[Alsa-user] no record using arecord ; no record using audacity 1.3.4
Hi, my rig is: Linux Distribution Puppy Linux Linux 2.6.25.16 [i686 arch] Basée Puppy 4.1.2 Un grand merci à Barry Kauler le génial créateur de Puppy, Kernel Information Kernel release:2.6.25.16 Operating System: GNU/Linux Architecture: i686 Soundcards recognised by ALSA: 0 [I82801DBICH4 ]: ICH4 - Intel 82801DB-ICH4 Intel 82801DB-ICH4 with AD1981B at irq 17 the complete check report of my system generated running 'alsa-inf.sh' in a console has been uploaded on http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=736d5badccb955c83661cd41624ff6209823898b my question: I am newbie with alsa and sound applications on pc+linux; I manage to use Audacity for recording from the on-board intel soundcard; but it does not work: seems Audacity does not recognize nor connect to the soundcard (input device is given as /dev/dsp/ in the edit/preferences/ i/o options, and there is no other possible option. In the 'help/audio info' the audio input given as 'audio input number: 0; device nr: 0'. So I suspect there to be something wrong. Alsa-wizard configuration on the intel proposed card returns sounds on the speakers upon test. And I can listen to sounds from .mp3 files or listen to web-radios,as also audio cd's But I cannot record any. using the command arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav (without quotes !) I followed the soundcard testing and recording documented in tha Alsa home page. I got a foo.wav file with nothing to ear doing aplay foo.wav. Re: [Alsa-user] ASUS M3N78-EM Motherboard (NVidia + ALC1200) - HDMI Audio not working
On Tuesday 12 May 2009, Scott Barlow wrote: I cannot get the HDMI audio to work with my ASUS M3N78-EM motherboard! I've To get audio over HDMI may be not so straightforward at times, 'cause it depends on a number of different things... not necessarily related to the audio system (ALSA). First of all: do you see the output device listed with aplay -l ? Consider that the device which sends audio through HDMI is likely NOT the default one (which usually is analog out), but rather is seen as a digital out (that is, IEC958 aka S/PDIF). If the device exists and is listed, you'll have to explicitly setup your apps to use it (e.g. plughw:0,1 or whatever it is) or define it as default on your ~/.asoundrc file. Which video driver are you using? AFAIK having audio over HDMI enabled depends also on the nVidia video driver (you must use a recent version of the nVidia proprietary driver). It does also depend on the EDID of your A/V screen (HDTV, projector?) properly reporting audio capability in the extensions block, otherwise the nVidia (VIDEO) driver will NOT enable audio over HDMI. [Alsa-user] Inspecting sound data flow
Hi, on a standard Linux installation the sound passes several programs, and it can be difficult to get a clear picture of what's going on. In one end is a file, in the other a hardware output of some kind. There can easily be several mixers, volume controls and who knows what in between. I'd like to be able to see if the actual data changes along the way. I'm looking for a way to compare a file to the last possible point of interception. I'm using a USB sound card, so I guess this last point in my case is either somewhere in the USB driver stack or at ALSA's endpoint. I think these two datasets should be identical -- right? Or at least any difference is a starting point for further investigation. Suggestions? Thanks, Niels -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances! [Alsa-user] Higher quality dmix resampling
I get a lot of static-like noise when dmix resamples audio with a USB DAC I'm trying out. When I have mpd resample internally with libsamplerate, it sounds perfect. Can I get dmix to use libsamplerate or disable dmix? One of the main programs I use with audio is miro which doesn't allow you to specify an audio ouput device. I tried this in /etc/asound.conf to disable dmix: pcm.!default { type hw card 0 } ctl.!default { type hw card 0 } and tested with mplayer but that yielded no sound at all. I also tried this: defaults.pcm.rate_converter samplerate but that also yielded no sound from mplayer. Can I get around this static? - Grant -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances! Re: [Alsa-user] 24-bit support in a USB DAC
Nice DAC. How does it sound? Are there tubes in that one? Gotta love that asynchronous USB mode. - Grant Sounds fanatstic. Yes, it sports one 12Au7 tube; haven't tried any other tubes beside the Elecro-Harmonix that it came with. Has been stable as one one could ask for with Linux, MPD, and the Alix server. The MSRP is very pricey for a NOS DAC. So, I picked it used for song on Audiogon. -- The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances! [Alsa-user] ALSA 1.0.20 PCM Capture Problem (Does not happen on ALSA 1.0.19)
Hello, I am utilizing an external mic on my machine in conjunction with a VF0560 Live! Cam Optia AF webcam. I am running CentOS 5.3 with the kernel listed below and ALSA 1.0.20. I using the machine to stream video with VLC 9.9 (see further below). VLC spits out the following on the console of my machine whist capturing A/V and serving it up on the network...ALSA 1.0.19 did not exhibit this problem while streaming it did lock up after 20 minutes or so (audio could be heard on the VLC or mplayer client with ALSA 1.0.19...just bits and pieces of audio every now and then with ALSA 1.0.20. I have not yet tried my USB mic with ALSA 1.0.20, but I will try it later tonight. Any and all help would be greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance.
