mmh... well, if it is some bug introduced with some kernel security fix,
as a possible workaround you may try to use the new 2.6.24 etchnhalf
kernel introduced with the latest Etch dot release.

(you'll also get a newer ALSA and a great many new features with it as
an extra bonus... :-)

Ciao,

[Alsa-user] alsa does not output to spdif on SiS964

2008-08-02 Thread Mikhail Ramendik
Hello,

I have debian etch, kernel 2,6,18, on a SiS964 motherboard. I want to use
spdif output.

It was working great for many months. However, recently (possibly after a
kernel security update) SPDIF output has stopped working.

It still works on Windows. iecset shows SPDIF parameters:

$ iecset
Mode: consumer
Data: audio
Rate: 44100 Hz
Copyright: protected
Emphasis: none
Category: PCM coder
Original: original
Clock: 1000 ppm

alsamixer lists the IEC958, marks it enabled, the volume is 100%, and the type
is set to PCM. But there is no output.

I tried to play directly to it but failed as alsa only finds one device:

$ aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: SI7012 [SiS SI7012], device 0: Intel ICH [SiS SI7012]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

What can I do to troubleshoot this?
