Re: amrecover unable to connect to remote client
You need amandaidx and amidxtape entries on the server in order to restore. Note that they are 'stream tcp nowait' services as opposed to the 'dgram udp wait' used for the amanda entry. All the clients need is the single amanda entry. You also need an entry in .amandahosts on the server of the form client.domain.com root in order to allow root on the client to connect to the server and restore files. amrecover unable to connect to remote client
Hi, I have just tried to restore some files from my tape server to my client and keep getting connection refused ( I ended up restoring them to the tape server at a tmp location and then using scp to get them to the client) Am I correct in thinking that to restore to clients you have to have amandaidx as well as amanda in /etc/xinetd.d in the clients xinetd.d directory ? (thus using RH, you have to install amanda-server rpm as well) as I have specified in both .amandahosts that root can connect (just in case) cheers Mark -- --- To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.

It has to fill the tape up twice in two different formats in order to determine the capacity, and unforch, there isn't any magic speedup button for that. Be aware that the OnStream drives of the 30 and 50 gig sizes have been the cause of a goodly amount to troubles as reported on this list. There appears to be some incompatibility when attempting to recover. I've never dealt with either, but many here have, usually with less than stellar results. Maybe someone who has made one of them work as advertised can come forward with their "magic twanger" story and relate how its done. Oh, oh... The "Magic Twanger" phrase dates me as being pretty ancient. :-) -- Cheers, Gene AMD K6-III@500mhz 320M Athlon1600XP@1400mhz 512M 99.12% setiathome rank, not too shabby for a WV hillbilly
Tapetype for Onstream SC50
I spent about 10 hours running tapetype for an Onstream SC50, and only to lose the information to a power surge. Can anyone give me the tapetype of an Onstream SC50? If not, then I will run tapetype again, and put down the information for everyone's else benefit. Just wish it didn't take forever.
