But i still have no label found, are you sure /dev/st0 is non-rewinding

As Amanda tells you, you have to use a 'non-rewinding' device,
e.g. /dev/nst0

Hello Henning,

on your amanda server, you have to put a line

localhost.localdomain root

into your .amandahosts file.

 - /etc/inetd.conf

Not sure what else to look for.
 Any ideas

 Thanks

Hello Todd,

to what user and group does the device /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 belong?
The amanda user must have read access to this device.
So put the amanda user in the group that owns this device and make sure
this group has got read permissions for it.

 Hi,
Hi Mark,

I'm trying to get the above 7-slot autoloader working with Amanda.
 I'm using amanda versions:

 amanda-2.4.2p2-1
 amanda-server-2.4.2p2-1
 amanda-client-2.4.2p2-1

 and mtx-1.2.10-1

 on RedHat 7.1

As far as I can tell, my changer device is /dev/sg1 and the non-rewind tape device
is /dev/nst0 (if anyone thinks
differently, shout). mtx -f /dev/sg1 status tells me that I have some slots loaded
(loaded slots are the same as the
 physical device shows)

Seems OK to me.

I've configured amanda.conf to use the tpchanger chg-zd-mtx option, and I've
configured a changer.conf file with the
right (hopefully) info. Each time I su to the amanda user, and issue an amtape

Hmm, this sounds a bit strange. Normally, here stands something
like /dev/nst0 or whatever the name of your (non-rewinding!) tape device
is.

You should probably run amrecover like this: 'amrecover -d
your_tape_device'

The following tapes are needed: DGQ974

 Restoring files into directory /export/home
 Continue? [Y/n]: Y

 Load tape DGQ974 now
 Continue? [Y/n]: Y
EOF, check amidxtaped.debug file on wendy.
 amrecover: short block 0 bytes
 UNKNOWN file
 amrecover: Can't read file header
 extract_list - child returned non-zero status: 1
 Continue? [Y/n]: n
 amrecover

 Does anybody know why?

 Thanks.

I/O-error on DELL powervault 120DLT

2001-07-19 Thread Bram Metsch

Hello,

I am using amanda-2.4.2p2 on a dell powervault 120 DLT7000. When I try
to label a tape in slot 2-6 , the folowing message appears:

 [root@localhost wiss-staff_daily]# su - amanda -c/usr/sbin/amlabel -f
wiss-staff_daily wiss-staff_daily02 slot 2
labeling tape in slot 2 (/dev/nst0):
rewinding, reading label, reading label: Input/output error
rewinding, writing label wiss-staff_daily02, checking label
amlabel: reading label: Input/output error

and this takes a lot of time.

On the other hand, if I try to label the tape in slot 1:

[root@localhost wiss-staff_daily]# su - amanda -c/usr/sbin/amlabel -f
wiss-staff_daily wiss-staff_daily01 slot 1
labeling tape in slot 1 (/dev/nst0):
rewinding, reading label, not an amanda tape
rewinding, writing label wiss-staff_daily01, checking label
amlabel: no label found, are you sure /dev/nst0 is non-rewinding?

My tapetype section in amanda.conf looks like this:

define tapetype DLT-IV{
comment DLT-IV tape drivers
length 35000 mbytes
filemark 8 kbytes
speed 5000 kbytes
}

and I use the chg-csee-mtx changer script.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bram.
