Re: filesystem limit?
35GB AIT-1 tapes (Native) plus I also have compression on the drives DISABLED (advice from the list about double compressing a file, resulting in a larger file than what you started with). It has slowed down the backups but the large (already compressed thanks to oracle) export database files seem to fit on the tape now. Those two files add up as follows: 2355658752+ 32212254720 --- 34567913472 --- and the filesystem is 33.7GB so it should just fit on: - HOST FILESYSTEM TOTAL USED pokolbin /u2036144364 33701475 - TOTALS: 36144364 33701475 Maybe I'm living too close to the edge? Re: Solaris 8 and L200
I currently use CHS with solaris (all versions 2.6 - 2.8) ... but as I have been discussing with the list I only have binaries to run it in 32bit mode. I can keep you posted Glenn on what I change to . I have had a quick look at MTX and I am still trying to find chg-scsi! Chs works well ... and if I had a preference I would continue using it as our amanda setup with CHS has worked fine for 5 years but no-one seems to have the source code for a recompile into 64bit mode so I'll start looking at these others. hi all ... thanks for the reply's so far I know the reverse lookups are fine (see original email) ... to add some more info that might help, look at this weekends results there are 8 filesystems in the schedule ... 8 of them work ... and ONE of them gets the error ... one can only assume that maybe there is a DNS timeout in the code. The other 7 worked fine. I know the host gets pretty loaded up ... it's feeding 5 AIT tape drives and the disks are working at about 15-20MB /sec when they are feeding the 5 tape drives. Someone else reported a similar problem a few days ago, and he reported that there was a typo in the reverse domain file of the DNS, and that fixing that fixed the problem. I wonder though, Why does amanda need to do a reverse lookup? You give amanda a hostname in the DLE, and it looks up the IP address, which should be adequate for amanda to do what it needs to do. But then it tries to do a reverse lookup for the hostname based on the IP address, and gives up if that fails. It would be nice if the reverse lookup could be avoided. Re: CHS tape robot management software
hi all, We purchased two Straightline SL850 tape robots 5 years ago. (5 x AIT-1 + 50 slots). It emulates a whole host of mainstream products but we choose the EXB-10e. Our vendor gave us the CHS software for SUN Solaris unix with the purchase, so that shell scripts (and AMANDA!) could manipulate the library robot without the need for trillion dollar software. Time goes by ... machines come and go and now I seem to be stuck. We never received the source code and I have been back to the vendor requesting it. Alas it seems those partnerships from long ago have lapsed and they can't give me the source code. The problem I have is that all of my hosts are now pretty much running the 64bit Solaris and the drivers are 32bit. All ultraSparc III chips MUST run in 64 bit mode ... so I need the source to re-compile it. Does anyone have the CHS source (I would not ask normally but my vendor is unable to supply it). A quick AMANDA question ...
Hi All, I have recently had this filesystem run out of tape, when I know that's impossible as the native capacity of the AIT drive is 35GB. I was wondering if there is a 32 bit limit to the size of a single filesystem that amanda can backup? That's all I can think of, for why it should suddenly stop working. I have 25 schedules across 5 x AIT tape drives and they all work beyond this capacity ... the only difference being that they have multiple filesystems to backup. This schedule has 1 filesystem that is large: These dumps were to tape schedule20-WEEK6. *** A TAPE ERROR OCCURRED: [[writing file: short write]]. Some dumps may have been left in the holding disk. Run amflush to flush them to tape. The next tape Amanda expects to use is: schedule20-WEEK1.
