Re: Amanda.org Website Updates -- Amanda bugfix release?

2020-12-03 Thread Pavan Raj
Thanks for the feedback. I agree that a next release is critical.
Our team looking in to the Amanda community will start working on a new release
from first week of Jan 2021.
Please expect more updates on the release next month.

The team working on the website is different from the above team.
I was able to get their time after a long negotiating battle __ and I don't
want to lose their time.
I will drive both the initiatives in parallel.

For a new release, we would require all of your contributions.
Chris (copied) will coordinate this effort.

I agree 100%. 3.5.1 is 3(!) years old now. And buggy.

(sidenote: the font in the mockups isn't suited for technical
documentation in my opinion)

Amanda.org Website Updates

2020-12-01 Thread Pavan Raj
Hello Everyone,

I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and
contributions to Amanda Community project.
We would like to continue the momentum with the upgrades and plan for a new
release.

Previously with the community’s help, we migrated the source code to Git
platform.
As a next step, we would like to improve the website to address the security
issues, modernize, and improve the usability.
Even though Amanda Community is a superior product compared to lot of
competitors, the website doesn’t make it apparent.
The current website is from 2003 and it poses a lot of challenges for today’s
needs.
We tried reaching out to the domain owner/host (Omniscient Technologies) to
discuss the website upgrade initiative but unfortunately we didn’t get any
response.

Given that, we would like to take up the initiative and update the current
website.
I would like to invite volunteers who are willing to spend time and resources
on this task.
We would like to improve
• the look and feel of the website
• security
• SEO
• the user documentation and website content
• usability with the help of analytics

A new logo and a wireframe for the home page to give a sense of direction that
we can take within the constraints can be found at
https://www.figma.com/file/TYonjW4rthJi3VlAkCOOdh/Amanda.org?node-id=0%3A1.
I request the community members to share their feedback and ideas by Dec 11,
2020.
