Did you check amidxtaped.debug on wendy?  It's in /tmp/amanda.

Can you see the data on the tape via mt/dd?  There are instructions in 
docs/RESTORE.

Hmm, this sounds a bit strange. Normally, here stands something
like /dev/nst0 or whatever the name of your (non-rewinding!) tape device
is.

You should probably run amrecover like this: 'amrecover -d
'
