[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Is this a request Send me your tape-types everyone ? Hey, you seem to read minds ... Not yet, please, I am thinking about a proper way to collect things. How should I decide which HP-DDS3 is the one to choose ...? There should be some defined email-subject as well as a kind of template: Sender: Name Senderaddress: email Source: generated w/ amtapetype OR from the FOM OR ... Manufacturer of Device: HP Type of Device: C1537A | ... Media: DDS | DLT | ... tapetype-definition: Any more suggestions for requested infos? Think about how you would look for a tapetype ... The information should get in as formatted as possible, so I can take it and convert|handle it with scripts or something. This could get into that new file as well as a tapetype-db on amanda.org. BUT PLEASE DON'T SEND ANYTHING YET, let's first discuss the formal issues, I do NOT want to drown in tapetypes, I have enough work already ;) Thanks, Stefan. -- Stefan G. Sure, a generic one: define tapetype YOUR_CHOICE_OF_NAME { comment if you want any length #### native (not compressed) capacity minus # a couple percent for marketing hype # (units of mbyte or gbyte) filemark #### zero to 0.05% of above number # it has relatively little effect # (units of kbyte or mbyte) } General question -- has anyone ever simply used the native capacity and a filemark of zero AND been bitten by amanda because of it? -- Jon H. Define 'bitten'. On my first attempt at using amtapetype years ago, it took forever to run (either the estimate size parameter didn't exist at the time or I overlooked it while trying to grasp all of Amanda at once). Since then I've just used the native size, and tweaked it down some if runs unexpectedly hit EOT (although there are occaisional tapes that are slightly shorter than normal). Eventually you gom up with a length that works 99.9% of the time. Frank -- Frank Smith[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sr. Systems Administrator Voice: 512-374-4673 Hoover's Online Fax: 512-374-4501
