You need to recompile...and for added umph, I'd use the
--with-gnutar=/path/to/tar option with my .config file just in case my path
is screwy or I have multiple versions of tar hanging around on that box.
Make sure to make clean, make distclean and check that config.cache is
empty. Then .config again...
