How about the FAQ (www.amanda.org)? This comes up almost weekly and is
covered there in detail.

This says mars will not allow access to user "amanda" (on mars) from
user "amanda" at venus.ditell.com. In other words, you need this line:
venus.ditell.com amanda
in ~amanda/.amandahosts on mars.

This says amcheck is probably not installed setuid root. Again, the FAQ
covers this. You can either fix up the programs that are mis-installed,
or do another "make install" (as root).
