Re: [AMaViS-user] Starting daemon results in no running processes (2.3.3 (20050822))

2005-12-06 Thread Matthias Keller

Hi Jeff

Just my 2cents, at least under my suse9 there was a bug in Net::Server
0.89 that it couldn't switch UID or GID

This seems to be fixed in 0.90 as far as i can see on my suse10 box.
Update using:
perl -MCPAN -e shell
install Net::Server

good luck

Jeff,

I had been running the new 2.3.x versions of amavisd-new successfully
but
recently had run into a problem possibly after upgrading perl to 5.0x
and
a few other packages.

Amavisd-new will look like it sucessfully runs using the init.d script,
but does not leave any processes running. The /var/log/amavis.log file
shows no failure messages and the last message in the log is:
Creating db in /var/lib/amavis/db/; BerkeleyDB 0.26, libdb 4.3

Start amavisd manually: amavisd debug
and see how far does it get.

If the 'Creating db in ...' is the last line, then it appears that
your installation of Berkeley DB library is broken.

If it also reports 'SpamControl: initializing Mail::SpamAssassin'
but stops there, there must be something broken in SA.

What are other people doing in this regard?

[AMaViS-user] check-jpeg and File::Scan

2005-12-06 Thread Ace Dahlmann
Hello,

I'm wondering if I should use one of the internal scan engines in my
config file (amavisd-new 2.3.3).

check-jpeg and check-jpeg-simple are both commended as example and
there's not much information I could find by using google.
Is it recommended (and if yes, which one?) to use one of those checkers
or are they still not really useful. Besides: Aren't most av-checkers
scanning jpegs by default, today?

Further more I am wondering what File::Scan does and if it's useful.
The only sentence I see again and again on Google is Mark's "if you
believe using File::Scan is worth it". ;)
(Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>)

At the moment I am using ClamAV and I want to include one additional
commercial scanner like F-Secure or so.

Should I stop thinking of using the two internals? :)
Thanks.

Ace

Re: [AMaViS-user] Amavisd is Dead

2005-12-06 Thread Gordon Thagard
Brilliant! I simply installed the latest Digest::MD5 perl module and now
all is well.

How is it that over time these perl modules are no longer able to do
their job with Amavisd-New? This sort of thing happens to me every year,
especially during/after major holidays when the spammers and
virus-senders go mad sending bulk mails.

Thanks again!

In all three cases the next operation involves MD5 digest.
I suspect there is something broken with your Digest::MD5.
Try reinstalling it, and make sure its installation self-check
does run and it is successful.

thanx. And is the syntax by sql (mailaddr) the same, for example:

Sure you can. Just leave remaining SQL fields NULL, which will let
amavisd-new continue lookup with static maps for such fields.
Fields which are always NULL can be even left out of the SQL schema,
missing fields default to NULL.

[AMaViS-user] [patch] work around old rpm2cpio bug

2005-12-06 Thread Thomas Jarosch
Hello Mark,

attached is a small patch to work around an old rpm2cpio version bug.

Reading the rpm file from stdin fails on RPM 3.0.x with
"cannot re-open payload: Success". As result rpm packages
get passed unscanned.

Luckily the filename can be passed as argument to rpm2cpio,
so it can easily be fixed. I don't know if it's worth the inclusion,
but we still run RPM 3, so we needed this patch.

Cheers,
Thomas
