Hi Christopher, I've still got the mystery of how his email gets in without being scored by Amavis. When I run spamassassin on it, it gets a very high score. Other spam gets filtered just fine. The problem is, that when antivirus dies for some reason,
Postfix's queue is growing, because amavisd-new says to the log,
that antivirus failed.
Does anyone know how to setup amavis to deliver the message
even if antivirus is broken?
You could enable always-clean as an fallback if your scanners fail.
Search for the line #['always-clean', sub {0}], in your amavisd.conf
file.

I don't know if this is possible with a sendmail dual configuration or if you need to switch to sendmail milter - or to postfix, like I did. A few months ago I tried to run amavisd and sql lookups against an oracle database, without success. amavisd can't connect to the oracle db on another host and failed with an ORA-06413: Connection not open. (DBD ERROR: OCIServerAttach) error. Don't know the reason for this behavior so I played a little bit with the amavisd code and found the following: When the sql connection to the oracle server is opened in the usual way, connections to the db server fail. When an initial connection to the oracle server is made (and closed immediately) very early (e.g. before Net::Server configuration) in the program, then the connections to the oracle server works and sql lookups against the oracle db on the other host is possible. So I read README.sql, installed the perl modules DBI and DBD::Oracle
