You say red lettering on the glass. It should be black and this dial is
the same as the 32V series.

Did you try Howard Mills, W3HM?

I'm looking for someone who has one of these, that still has the red
lettering

All of the numbers on mine were rubbed off by someone who 'cleaned' the
exciter
   up.
   *sigh*

I use it, in the xtal socket of the appropriate tuning unit, for a
stable VFO on
   my

Not yet... but, if I could find one, that I could scan, then I could just print
out a transparency, and apply it to the inside of the glass.

These transparencies are less than $10. Not the worth the bother to fuss
 about.

I have the scales here by the way.

would you mind emailing me on, as an attachment?

I'm assuming you mean, you have the scales there, as a bitmapped image file, or
even jpg would be fine.

Dave,
Can't join you at Hamvention but would like to get a bit of sage advice
regarding a Collins amp I am considering buying.
I am looking at a 30S-1 only a few miles from my QTH.
Presently have several items from when I started in amature radio in 1961 as
WN2MOX but would like to assemble over time a Collins station similar to what
we used at RACES in those days.
We can do it by email or I would like to call you to discuss this if you
would provide me with a phone number.

Re: [AMRadio] Collins 20V-3

2004-04-11 Thread David Knepper
Neil and others, this heavy metal thing is like a disease, once you
have it, you can't get rid of it!

In my younger life, courtesy of the Air Force, I was a heavy transmitter
technician whose task it was to maintain and service ground to ground
transmitters that were tied to three bay rhombics.I am sure now that
they may be resting in some landfill having been replaced by solid-state
Harris units. I can't think that they were brought back to the USA from
England and the Azore Island where I was stationed.

I can still recall all that the blower noise in the transmitter building
which housed a minimum of twenty or so RCA, Westinghouse, Marconi, Collins,
etc. It was somewhat difficult to talk to another tech in the three bays
where the equipment was housed. Each bay was approximately 120 feet in
length. When you were at either of the three bays it seemed such a long way
back to the main console.

Incidentally, the 20V-3 will soon be sitting next to my Western Electric
451A-1 unit at the Collins Radio Center extension. Of course, we will keep
the light on if you wish to stop by for a visit.

  Thanks

2004-04-11 Thread Mark Foltarz
Chuck,

  TNX for the reply.

Eureka! You gave me the answer and it was under my nose the whole time!

I also have the Radio buyers guide from 1945, and darn if the part I wanted
to look up is also the one I need - utc S-34 (5 / 25 HY swinging choke @ 300
ma.)

That choke was saved from a trash can at some hamfest a few years ago. And
it is exactly what is called for in the power supply for putting my TBW
transmitter on the air.

Thanks for the push in the right direction! HI!
