[AMRadio] Motorized Variables
Calling all Vacuum Variable Gurus... I am in need of education on vacuum variables and how they are motorized: Is it necessary to use stepper type motors or will a high gear reduction type configuration work as well? How are the limit switches accomplished? Is a friction type clutch safe enough or are the capacitors too delicate for that? What is the best speed (RPM) to use when turning the capacitor? Should I be concerned with interference if I use 115 vac motors? As you can tell, I'm dumb as a stick about these things. Any advice and help would very much appreciated. I'm sorry for the duplicate posts to those who are on multiple lists. Thanks, Rick/K5IZ
[AMRadio] Grundig Radio Console

Re: [AMRadio] Grundig Radio Console
I have a similar set by Blaupunkt that I restored a few years ago. This set is probably from the early to mid 60s. Some of the tubes are a little hard to find but often there are American versions that will work but have a different number. A good crossover chart will help if u find u need tubes. The turntable may be designed for 220vac at or 50hz and not work in the US. The radio chassis will have a voltage selector for several voltages for the radio and the line frequency wont matter for the radio. These sets often use selenium rectifiers so be careful handling them. I understand they can contain poison. Dial cords can be a problem also and there are sometimes dial cord operated rotating am loopstick antennas inside as well as other cord operated gadgets. The speakers are often weird sizes and impedances also. I have found the short wave sensitivity poor on these sets since they were built for use in Germany where short wave is local. any more questions email me direct. I am good in QRZ. Re: [AMRadio] Grundig Radio Console
I believe that radio was for export to the North American market. The ID label is entirely in English. The domestic German consoles typically did not have labels in english, the FM broadcast band (if present) extended only to about 100mHz, designated as UKW. MW and LW were also on the domestic models. Export (North America) typically lack LW. 73, de Joe, N6DGY - Original Message - From: John E. Re: [AMRadio] Grundig Radio Console
Another giveaway that this is an export intended for the American market are the Conelrad markings. I failed to notice earlier. 73, Joe, N6DGY - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Discussion of AM Radio amradio@mailman.qth.net Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2006 12:48:12 -0600 Subject: Re: [AMRadio] Grundig Radio Console I believe that radio was for export to the North American market. [AMRadio] A 20 Meter AM Surprise
When I turned the rig on upon arriving home from work, I heard W4MDL in Va running AM on 14.167. I didn't get which rig he was using, but it sounded really fine in Ms, and the frequency was clear on my end. He's now on SSB on 14.173 working dx. All that to say what's going down on 14.286? I've heard no one, not even W8VYZ up there in the evenings for the past 2 weeks or so. Have we given that frequency back to the ssb crowd? Mike Duke, K5XU American Council of Blind Radio Amateurs
