Re: [AMRadio] G-50 revisited
Wow... My eyes are worse than I thought! The parts list is below the schematic, like you said, in a very small font, but I can't locate a voltage chart any where on there. I'll get out my BIG magnifier! Man, this gettin' old stuff is for the birds! :-) I sure would appreciate a copy of those charts if you happen to have them scanned. If not, I will gladly pay for a snail mailed copy. Thanks, Rick Peter Markavage wrote: The parts list and the voltage chart are located below the schematic on the same sheet. Re: [AMRadio] G-50 revisited
The parts list and the voltage chart are located below the schematic on the same sheet. Unfortunately the parts list font is about size 3 and the voltage chart numbers font size is about a 1. Gonset later issued separate voltage chart page sheets (2) and separate parts list pages (2). There was no service manual for the G-50 nor the G-28. Gonset wasn't big on service manuals. I can't recall any Gonset amateur rig where Gonset printed a separate service manual for it. And, yes, I have the sheets. Re: [AMRadio] G-50 revisited
That's probably right, Jim! This one is a 6 meter AM transceiver, but it hasn't been on either. I still have my HF station torn down, but I only lack one more part that should be here this week. I look forward to chatting with you and the others in the mornings very soon. Thanks! Rick Jim Wilhite wrote: It may be squealing out of joy. [AMRadio] G-50 revisited
Has anyone ever run across a voltage chart for the Gonset G-50? I have an original Instruction Manual with the folded schematic (in very delicate condition) but there is no voltage chart? I wonder if there is a service manual? If anyone happens to have such a document I would love to have a copy. RE: [AMRadio] Pi Dux Coil
Jim, Counting from the blocking capacitor end, the plate coil is tapped at 4 turns for 10 meters; 7.5 turns for 15 meters; 10.5 turns for 20 meters; 14 turns for 40 meters; and 24 turns for 80 meters. All of the figures include the 4 turn coil made from 3/8 strap. NOTE: Strapping should then be run to the band-switch terminals which do not progress in consecutive order and arranged to provide the shortest possible lead length. Good Luck. 73, Bob,W4WSZ AM'ing over 55 years > [Original Message] > From: Jim Wilhite <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: > Date: 8/29/2006 5:28:39 PM > Subject: [AMRadio] Pi Dux Coil > > I found it. > > __ > AMRadio mailing list > List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio > Partner Website: http://www.amfone.net > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html > Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net __ AMRadio mailing list List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Partner Website: http://www.amfone.net Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.html Post: mailto:AMRadio@mailman.qth.net

Does anyone have the instruction and specification sheet for a Pi Dux 195-2 coil? Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Thanks Al, I did the same and it helped. I also heated it with a heat shrink gun and that helped. I was never able to get any crud to flow out, but it does seem to be working properly now. 73, Rick Schichler, Alfred wrote: I had a G-50 a couple years ago with the same problem. Re: [AMRadio] Diversion
Good idea, Jim, I'll order one. Are there any other frequencies I need for AM operation? I'd still like to have both VFO's working correctly. It drives me crazy to have equipment that isn't completely functional. I found last night the back of the rotor had somehow slipped around (probably when I tapped the transceiver on the bench to get solder or other foreign objects out after repair) and was causing some of the slipping. Brian, do you have these rocks? Rick Rick, Plug in a 8.4 Mhz crystal! RE: [AMRadio] Diversion
I had a G-50 a couple years ago with the same problem. The internal reduction drive assembly was slipping in some places. I squirted some degreaser inside the bigger shaft, and it worked much better. It started slipping again when it dried, but after squirting a little more in there, the slipping was gone. It might not work all the time, but it did work for me. After stuffing the filter capacitors and replacing a couple of capacitors in the cathode circuit of the speech amp/preamp combo the G-50 came to life. However, I find now that the variable capacitor on the receive VFO is having turning problems. It's one of those geared internally capacitors with one shaft inside another one. I guess the friction clutch or whatever makes those things tick is worn out or maybe oily. Does anyone have a solution for such a problem, other than replacing it?
